Looks like the 8800 GTX is working well on UO. I wonder if you have COD2 and if so, can you try some benchmarks for me? I bought an 8800 GTX a couple of months ago but found that it could not match even a single 7900 GTX KO card, much less two 7900s. That was for COD2. It did run a little faster on the 3DMark06 scores than the two 7900 cards. But it's performance with COD2 was a real dissapointment. I had a number of discussions with the EVGA folks and they finally admitted that there may be scaling issues with the "older" programs.

The bottom line is that it now sits in a box while I hope that EVGA will come out with a more powerful card to replace the 8800 GTX. At least then I would then be able to use the EVGA upgrade program to get something that will run at least as fast as the 7900s on COD2.

Hello, i have cod2 but i dont play it very often., when i do i normally get about 70-80 fps @ 1920 x 1200 on a 24 inch 244t samsung. the evga 8800 is replacing 2 7900gt in sli and those cards did about the same but the eye candy had to be reduced alot. i am very pleased with it. any video card that can run oblivian @ that resolution with most of the details turned up and still produce playable framrates get the thumbs up in my book. Mike there must be something wrong with your card. my 8800 smokes the doors off of my 7900gt sli setup. and my 7900's ran at 620 core clock and 1800 mem clock. I would RMA the card, i had to do it once with evga and they were great about it. in the meantime i will check my settings in cod2 and get back with you.

to unlock framerate ,locate uoconfig_mp.cfg. make a backup copy, open in wordpad, find and change the following setting. seta com_maxfps. change the number to 0 if you want to uncap your framerate. they say 125 is optimal for the quake engine.i have been running mine uncapped with no problemsl.hope this was helpful. mobrules.gif

Yep, I thought I had a bad 8800 but even your numbers show lower performance: I get 104 fps @ 1920 x 1200 with DX9 and all settings at max with the 7900 GTX KO (GPU speed = 690 mhz).

But the real problem is when you play with reduced settings so that you can get the fastest possible FPS for competition. Here the 8800 really falls down. At 1280 x 1024 in DX9, AA at 2x, Bilinear and all extra settings, I get a solid 333 fps on wawa. The 8800 could not maintain much above 200 fps .

When I told EVGA those numbers, they were not too surprised. The standard 8800 GTX runs a slower clock than the 7900 GTX KO and the emphesis has been on the extreme eye candy end - not max FPS performance at lower settings.

Your Core 2 should be faster than my 5200 clocked AMD so I would be still be interested in what you can get in COD2 wawa. Let's meet and do some additional testing on the map.

Hey OMM,

I will be building a new PC for my home soon. What video card do you recommend? Without going too overboard on the $$$.

You are building a new PC??? You sleep with the server in your bedroom (ping is like 30). You already have a speedy PC and excellent skills. What are you gonna do rape us all? ohmy.gif

LOL Kleerance,

My computer that I play on now is from my office. I dont have one at my house yet. I just moved into a new place not even 2 months ago and have been finishing the basement. Once that's complete, I will build a new PC for my basement and then play from home as well.

Those 7900gt cards are a real good value for the performance. I'm sure that Major Abuse will agree.

The next best step up would be the 7950 overclocked cards.

8800's are good for the future with the DX10 but seem to be lacking in the fps performance for the older games running in the reduced graphics mode.

Now if they would only do two 8800's on the same card, like an 8850 with overclocking then......

If your looking for something good and cheap, browse through www.Newegg.com OR www.TigerDirect.com
I found a lot of good stuff for under $60 ( + Shipping and handling )

In my case theres a Tigerdirect store near a mall by my home soo i dont pay Shipping and handling.

I've noticed alot of the screenshots i've seen people post, for example, Rommels recent screenshot are really dark. Do you play at this brightness level? Or is it the image hosting site that causes this? Just curious.

Zone Alarm firewall was the reason for my game to be very dark everytime I logged on servers. Everytime I started to play I had to adjust brightness higher, otherwise it was impossible to play. After uninstalling it game has been lot brighter on brightness level right from the map loading page.

Well, I see one familiar name on Nothing“s screenies, that ring a bell. laugh.gif
