I just bought this game and downloaded the first patch 1.1
on the same day. Looking very good so far but sorta hard
on the older PC's....

This is one great game. The graphics are approaching picture
quality. Ships and subs look more real than ever. Still some
bugs left but patches are in the works to eliminate them. The
modders are also hard at work taking this game to even higher
levels. Have to go now and sink some ships...

Nope! It has a multi-player side as well. Google it and you can go to Ubisoft's web site and check it out.
The Multiplayer has 2 different elements to it.
1. You can all play as subs against the surface AI.
2. One player handles the surface TF (escorts too)
and goes after the other players driving subs. I think
up to 4 players at the moment but future patches could
add more....

Sryker,
Can you give us a rundown on what this game is like? Is it somewhat fast paced or boring?
Ok, there are 3 ways to play:
1. Single Missions-you are an American sub in a famous historical battle
in the pacific or just a what-if type of scenario.
2. Single Patrol: Your sub leaves a base to go on a full patrol somewhere in the pacific fighting the Japanese.
3. Campaign: You leave different ports on multiple patrols and rack
up tonnage scores or get sunk if careless.
Submarines are a stealthly platform with good firepower (torps)
If you can sneak into position and sink enemy tonnage without getting
detected, you will do well. And thats IF you can avoid the DD escorts
after the attack. You are the Hunter and then the Hunted.
There is also an editor to set up your own missions or patrols.
You can play at 100% realsim or somewhat less to learn the game.

New Patch is released:
Patch v1.4
CHANGES:
· Rendering distance increased to 20km, with appropriate improvement for visual sensors capabilities
· Dynamic loading of game units has been implemented, considerably improving loading times
· Improvements to Water rendering
· Improvements for enemy ships detection of steam torpedoes
· Damage taken by hulls submarine is shown in the damage interface
· Entries in Captain’s Log are now limited for better performance
· Screenshot names now contain the date they were taken on
· End patrol ports are now displayed on the map
· Objectives on the navigation now change color when completed
BUG FIXES:
· Destroyer/Submarine collisions always leading to the destroyer being sunk
· Fix the periscope animation problem
· Save & Load issues with the submarine crew
· Magnetic/Contact Detonator switch now working properly
· Improper display of the TBT interface for widescreen resolutions
· Loss of torpedo aiming track when crossing the International Date Line
· Deck gun Metric/Imperial system issues
· Repeating objectives bug
· Correct date when loading a save from career

Hey Jim, does that fix resolve most or all of the complaints? I've been holding off getting it due to the reported problems, but this list you posted seems lengthy ... hows' it run now?

It actually runs very good now with patch 1.4 and a few tweaks.
There are, of course, some big supermods out for it as well.
I do mostly single patrols getting a feel for the campaign layer
spawning of the enemy AI ships. There is a big revision going
on of the campaign layers to make the game as historical as
possible. After it is finished, I will undertake a campaign...
