I just got back from playing on the Lets Get It On servers.
While playing, a player who named his COD2 character the same name as the killer of Virginia Tech signed on and was playing. I asked him politely to please change his name because it was just blasphemy and beyond disrespect out of all the names he could choose, it be Cho Sueng Huei (is that how u spell it)

As you all know, 32 innocent souls were masacred at Virginia Tech last week by one man and then he himself commited suicide.

So then after I asked him , he started asking blatantly why he should change his name. and i explained why. then he told me "Well thats waht American soldiers do everyday in Iraq" so i just blew up and was swearing everywhere and i just signed off eventually.

now, i understand everybody has a right to freedom of speech. but to play a video game using the name of a mass murderer for u game name? for all i could give a **** his name could be Fred or Donkey or )*U#)*#UR)*UR)*U#, but it had to be that name.

How would you all have responded to this?

Its also very interesting you bringing this up.Why you may say well,On the very day of the shooting i went onto a CODUO server,"cant remember the server name" anyway some idiot had his name in game and i responded the same way you did asking him why and all i got was F--- y-- Mechanic etc.I just left the server...This guys name was written in all yellow could it have been the same person i delt with ?I wonder..

What an asstard. He's obviously looking for attention and figured that would be the best way to do it. I've found that most of the players that have names like that are under 14 yrs old. Most people that just jump on to play are mature and don't act up. Screen shot and send to admin next time. That name should be added to the "not allowed" player names list.

I have to tell you, the day following the shootings I had a guy sign into barb with that name. I told him to please change his name and he did without questioning. It sure would be interesting to see if it's the same guy. Good thinking Pez, that name should be without question added to the "bad name list"...

Question: I've seen players who use names of people in history who committed horrible crimes (ie. HITLER, JEFFREY DAHMER, OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBER, THE ZODIAK.........the list goes on), and don't see people asking them to be banned or put on the bad list, where do we draw the line people?

Look..... i agree with you all about the topic , but there would be many people out there who play online that would be booted or banned. I Think people should be very careful when picking a name that they want to play under.

Some people in the MOB-clan would be banned or put on the bad name list if some people(not me) had their say.

p.s. the names I've listed above are actual player names that i have seen people use while I was playing online.

As an FYI, there are literally hundreds of people that would fit into the categories of serial murderer (http://www.mayhem.net/Crime/murder1.html) and serial murderers (http://www.mayhem.net/Crime/serial1.html).

I thought about that whole naming thing after I posted here the first time. Is it different to have a name like Hitler or Goebbels? In my opinion, YES. The kid who used the name for the mass murderer at the VT campus was a huge fuck up. He did it as a way to create drama or bring attention onto himself. Now people that use names that are WW2 driven are different because it's military history and we're playing a game involving military history. The Dahmer, Oklahoma Bomber, and other crazy stuff is stupid. Those people, like the VT shooter, are looking for attention. They are most likely picked on in school, have no friends, or no life... so to get people to talk to them they create a name that no one will like. Same philosophy typically applies to the guys that use the hot key chats over and over in the game and team killers. They're reaching out, unfortunately the wrong way... they need to see a shrink.
