Brown, 32, is fortunate to be alive after crash landing from more than 45 feet during Thursday night's skateboarding big air competition.

He also sustained bruises to his liver and lung, and a mild concussion. The liver injury is what's keeping him under watch at California Hospital Medical Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Oh gosh, I saw that.. been watching the x-games right along. Yesterday was the bikes and surfers. One of the bikers did a huge jumping tail-flip off the top and landed on his hip, right onto the edge of the jump ... ouch! There were a lot of spills yesterday with the bikes, but a ton of great graceful biking.

saw it live. He should NEVER have gotton up. They should have back boarded him and taken him to the hospital. THe thud when he hit was creepy. His FRIGGIN SHOES WERE BLOWN OFF!!!

Me, sinbad, and another friend were watching the live webcast. We all thought he died on impact , it was extreme no doubt.

Seeing in replay and knowing he's OK, this was extremely cool to watch on the slow mo. He did a GREAT job to protect himself on the landing, letting his feet/shoes absorb the majority of the impact and angling to a sideways fall. You can see the panic as he's in the air, kicking his feet, knowing what is about to happen, but he landed as perfectly as one could in the situation. Great job, and here's hoping no long term injuries.
