Finally some moves this side of the border in Canuckland regarding drunk drivers who 'murder' - The first good move I think was about a decade ago when finally they vapourised a defence lame lawyers were using to protect drunk drivers- something like; they drink, get drunk, then drive but don't know what they're doing after so they can't be guilty of killing someone as a result. I wish we had some laws some US States have regarding putting the slap down on murderous drunk drivers.

See the link and then the twit of a lawyer's statement saying it's still not a drunk driver's fault if they kill someone. You must go completely nutters when you come across these lawyers 6pak.

I think the deed this repeat drunk driver did merits death penalty- summarily execution style too.

I had a very close family friend who was killed by a drunk driver when he came across the median and ripped my friends car in half.

Several days later the drunk guy was still in the hospital. My friends Dad had decided he wanted to go see this guy and tell him he forgave him for what happened. When he got to the guys room he explained that he was the father of the young man he killed. The guy looked at him and said "So?"

Typical though- they just don't care whose lives they mangle by their addiction+driving. Look at Kiefer Sutherland getting wrist slapped after his 4th drunk driving offence..... A total waste of humanity- drop 'em in a hole followed by the yell 'fire in the hole'.

It's a sad day when you see these repeat offenders getting little punishment. I have zero tolerance for impaired drivers... as I was once the victim of one. I've also seen the children that were left for dead at the side of the road, ran over by a drunk driver who fled the scene. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you read about this in the paper on a daily basis.

The problem is .... does the punishment fit the crime? Absolutely not in my opinion. And until it does, this will continue to haunt many families in communites throughout our Nation. MADD does a great job promoting the cause, but people never think it will happen to them. The majority of the accidents with impaired drivers in Canada occur when people are right around the limit point. They still have the confidence that they are ok to drive. Driving is a privilege, but the laws make it look like it's a right.

We really should have 3 strikes your out..meaning 3rd offense and you have jail for life. I'm sure that would deter a few.

My ex-gf from Japan told me how the drunk driver laws there were having a huge impact on the issue;
Here's the proof;

Hopefully the pansy lawmakers here and elsewhere do something similar to get tough of killers so public and emergency personnel don't need to repeatedly endure these tragedies by selfish baboons. Quebec is cracking down too - some 'normal drivers' here are bad enough unsure.gif
