If anyone who uses our Ventrilo server has problems, please post them here and I will put together a FAQ.
A few tips to start of with.
Ventrilo comes with a great help file which is in
C:\Program Files\Ventrilo\Doc\Setup.htm
I've no idea why they didn't supply a shortcut to they help-file along with the program.
One of Ventrilo's nice features is it's "Text to Speech Announcements".
Which will tell you who has left or joined the channel.
WinXP is the only OS which comes with the needed "Text to Speech" files installed.
If your using any OS but WinXP, you can download the necessary TTS libraries here.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/spe...speechsdk51.exe
Unfortuanley it's a large file, 56MB. After you download it, install the file using the default installation information. The next time you start Ventrilo it will automatically detect the presence of the TTS library and use it.
I've noticed several people using less than optimal microphone settings.
Ventrilo offers better sound quality then the other Voice communications programs available if setup correctly.
A few details to keep in kind when setting up Ventrilo.
1) In Settings>Voice properties. If you select your soundcard for
Input, Mixer & Mux, You'll be able to adjust all your settings right in Ventrilo and not have to tab between Ventrilo and your Windows Sound settings
2) Louder is not always better. I've notice some people may have a tendency to set their mic level to low because they almost whisper into the mic during setup and testing. Then when they are actually in the game and using their normal voice, it causes them to sound terrible do to their voice being over modulated.
3) If your using a headset mic, keep in mind the best position for your microphone is NOT directly in front of your mouth. Position your mic off to the side. This can make a huge difference in sound quality, as your mic will not transmit breath noise.
Post any questions or problems and I'll try to help you out.
