Full Version: Weapons MOD added to server

Druid
We have added a beta version of a realism mod to our Call of Duty server.
Before the complaints start rolling in about how it's not a REAL Realism MOD.
Let me 1st say I use the term "Realism" very loosely.
Our main focus is on fun and balanced gameplay.
If your looking for diehard realism, this isn't the server for you.
There are several people working on mods which are more focused on realism, so if this mod isn't to your liking, I'm sure you can find a server which is.

The actual weapons mod is all server side, but it also includes a static crosshair for anyone wanting a crosshair similar to MOHAA.
If you want to use a static crosshair, you'll have to download and install the mod.
You can download it here:

You'll need to copy the pk3 to your
Call of Duty\main directory

Please feel free to reply with any questions or suggestions.

Thanks for the Mod Druid. The gameplay is much more enjoyable with your realism. Anyone who has tried COD online before should give Druid's mod a try.

Please remember, the mod only needs to be downloaded by people who want to use a static crosshair.
I have high hopes the upcoming patch will allow a server side option for static or dynamic crosshairs.

The 4 main changes I would like to see in the patch are.
1) Option to set a static crosshair
2) Stop the bunny hopping
3) Block openGL hacks
4) Allow banning by CD-key

Hey Druid I have not looked at your mod yet but FYI there is a static crosshair that is exactly like MOH, and a laser dot already included in the game. You only have to change the weapons script file to make it work. That way you dont need any additional pk3 files. If your interested in how to do it email me and I will show you where its at in detail.

Also I have found there are some of the settings for weapons that run client side only so you will eventually run in to that at some point. There are 202 settings in each weapon so this game is far more configurable than MOH.

I have allowed downloads on my server to enable people to automatically get the client side part of my mod and autodownloads works great. It will however cause some issues with people that jump around from server to server and those who go to other pure servers.

To answer the question of affect on the patch, Q3 based games actually load the pk3 files in reverse alphabetical order so anything named zz or user- will always load first before the pak0-pak?? files. The server is set up to grab the FIRST settings that it recieves and ignores anything else that tries to load after that. So any additional settings that affect multiplayer weapons in the patch will be ignored.

I've updated the mod, anyone who has download it will need to grab the new copy.
You can get it here.

As before, you only need to download the file if you want staic crosshairs.

Thanks to F_K for pointing me to the built in crosshair.

Druid,
I thought in COD you could force the mod download to the client?

You can force the download, but I would prefer to not do it if it's not absolutely necessary. The problem is when some joins our server, they will be unable to goto any pure server without 1st deleting the mod.
Also there is a good chance some people who play on our server may not want to use the static crosshair. They may prefer to keep the stock crosshair, which they are use to playing with on other servers.
