Old Man Mike
Hey boys and girls,

You might want to see how your PC system performance compares to your team mates by running the latest (free) 3Dmark05 benchmark:

http://www.futuremark.com/download/?3dmark05.shtml

As a point of reference, here are a few scores:

Best known score from extreme overclocked AMD system: ~19,000

Top end 3.6 Ghz PC with 7800 GTX 512 Video = 9800

Old Man Mike 2.8 Ghz Intel with underclocked 6800GT = 4468

I'm very interested in seeing the scores from other MOB players.

Hey P,

Impressive but is that the default mode used in the Free version? The highest result posted at Futuremark for an ATI Radeon X1800 is 11,378. The accepted standard for comparison is the default mode of the free version of 3DMark05 v 1.2.0.

Did it without vent on and got 6873

That with 2 X1800XT in crossfire!! But not 3dMark approve yet.
Old Man Mike
Ah, two 1800XT cards. So you have a motherboard that runs two ATI cards in crossfire mode?

Well I ran the 05 on both of my computers last night here's what I got...

Computer 1:

AMD 64 3000+ w/ ASUS Cool Ice thermal solution, 1Gb. XMS 550, Gigabyte Ultra-9 mobo, & Gigabyte GF 6800 Ultra w/NV-6 cooling solution (much cooler and quiter than a stock system), 4 Hitachi 250Gb Sata300s,& an Antec Neo 480w for the power...Score untweaked was right at 5400....score tweaked (CPU,Ram timings, & GPU oc'd) was 5707

I run it untweaked so it wont crash.

Computer 2 (my gamer):

A stock (mostly) Dell Dimension 8300 it has 3.2 P4, 2 gigs of PC3200, ATI 9800Pro w/128mb & NV-5 cooling solution, Dual 36Gig Sata150 Raptors...this setup gave me around 2500...then I upgraded to an ATI x800 XL and scored right at 4450

So basically my systems suck compared to something brand new . However in COD2 with some tweaking I get about 150-200fps avg. it never drops under about 80 and have seen it hit over 300 on the Dell...the AMD sys is mainly used for ripping DVDs so I dont know how well COD2 will run on it.

That's pretty good, I'm a little suprised that the video card upgrade that you did made that much difference.

It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers O'l Man Mike gets with his new "go-get-'em" machine.

I'm guessing that it will benchmark around 15,000

I haven't tried it, but I think I'd get a 3.

Well I was ticked off cuz my score was so low. I tore my compter apart today. I took the heatsink off the ATI x800xl and found that there is only some crappy heatsink paste...so I replaced it with artic silver...haha! I then went and ran the ATI Tool...which I ran yesterday and could only overclock my card about 3 Mhz without getting artifacts in the display...today I got it over 16% Overclocked sweet...and it boosted my score to 5185...then I went and took my Corsair Ram (XMS 550 w/ 2.5,4,4,8 timings) and replaced the crappy stock Dell (Samsung CL3 don't know the rest of the timings) and scored 5240...not bad this gives me almost another 1000 (about 14-16%) compared to yesterday on the same machine!

I'll be able to live with that score as long as OM'Mike doesnt post his score from the beast he built! Take the hint Mike...DON'T Post it! I don't wanna know.

Hey ghost I was surprised too...but think about the difference in the 2 cards...the 9800 had like 8 pixel pipelines and 128 of DDR...the X800xl has 16 pipelines and 256 of DDR3....not to mention about a million more transistors in the GPU.

Bargod you should run it....that is if it will run...I have a system at home here that '05 wont run on...its about the same as yours..so actually...you'll get a big fat ZERO just like me....haha!

Don't remember exactly what mine was ....but it was in the low hundreds IPB Image
All over but the Crying
3d mark performance does not exactly equate to ingame performance. It is more of a Video card big dick competition. When running 2 video cards, your cpu then becomes the bottleneck. Hopefully games in the future will take advantage of dual core processors.

LOL....Then plenty out there with wee little ones.

I just ran 3DMark06 and scored a mere 1769 with my Dell...and scored 2607 with my AMD/6800Ultra homebuilt.

Off too work...l8rz
