IMHO there is not much of a debate. after many years of being a AMD fanboi i have no choice but to conceded that intel holds the CPU crown today and for the foreseeable future

Same here. Unless it is a budget gaming machine, in which case AMD may offer better bang for buck. But if you are going mid-tier I'd say Intel wins slightly, at as you approach the higher end, Intel is really killing AMD.

So for example, if you're putting together a $800 system, AMD may work for you, a $1200-1300 system, Intel probably wins on a price/performance scale, and if you going cutting edge with a $1800+ system, it's Intel all the way. AMD gets really expensive for their high end stuff that is matched by an Intel processor at a lower price.

This testimony from a person with no particular affiliation. I've put computers together with both, and had no regrets. Lately, I put together a $2000 system (about $1800 American) and I put an Intel Core 2 Duo 2750 in it.

I've build a dozen computers thru the years and they have all been Intel with the exception of last year. I found the AMD CPU to be good for the money but not as robust as Intel. I just finished building another Intel based computer with a Core 2 E6850 and have been VERY impressed with the overclocking. I'm getting over 30% OC and rock stable performance which I never came close to with the AMD.

I sold my AMD stock last year right after I saw Intel's Core2 performance. AMD had been giving Intel a real run for the money until Intel came back with that Core2 sledgehammer. I'm somewhat sad about it since Intel was becoming a monopoly and is now back in that saddle again.

I used AMD up until last year and still have an asus sli motherboard with a skt 939 opteron 185 sitting in a box on top of my desk (anyone interested?). The AMD processor that i have is dual core and will do 2.8 ghz easily. I swaped over to Intel core 2 series and can tell you first hand as of right now the Intel clock for clock mops the floor with the AMD. I Will say that AMD is coming with barcelona and phenom processors in the near future, so it remains to be seen if AMD can regain the performance crown. Lets hope they can be competitive with Chipzilla err Intel as it makes for more choices and affordable solutions. smile.gif

I use Intel and think it's the best CPU

I have AMD Athlon at the moment but next pc might have Core 2 Duo 6600 or 6700.

I've been dong a lot of research on computer components and as far as cpu's go, all the charts I've seen puts Intel on top of the hill.
