Well I just bought COD4 and loaded it on my comp. Problem is when I click on the icon on my desktop to play. All I get is the cod4 picture and my mouse is an hourglass I wait about 5 minutes and nothing happens. LOL hopefully someone else had this problem and knows how to fix it. I did run the demo on my comp and had no problems. Well hopefully someone will know how to fix this issue. Thanks in advance.

The game needs 1GB of memory, so make sure you have at least that much. And if you only have 1GB, don't run any other programs in the background (I have only 1GB, and found that if anything else is running that eats up memory, the game won't load for me either).

Ouch thats a good thing you cant get into cod4

I have 1.5 gb memory and my vid card has 256 gb. Maybe something is running in the background. Been having problems with my comp ever since I defraged it. Thanks for the help cory I am now going to take my ball and leave.

Hey Lloyd, did you choose to install punkbuster that came with the game and do you have the latest (Nov) DirectX 9.0c? I couldn't get Muncus' Cod 4 to work until I did that. Btw, just installing punkbuster did not work so I re-installed from the beginning and all was good.

I installed everything punkbuster and all. And John as I said before I clicked on the icon on my desktop and all I get is an hourglass.

Well I just got off the phone with tech support for COD4 and the tech told me some bad news. My processor is a AMD athlon xp 3200+, mmx, 3dnow, ~2.2ghz. What I need to play the game is a AMD 6400 2800+. I hope maybe one of you computer geniouses knows how to get around this. If not then I am stuck with a $50.00 game I cant play.

Lloyd, I know that processor will run it because thats what I have.



Keep tweaking. Lower all settings. Kill unwanted programs.

Lloyd there is a file that you need to delete(if indeed this is why the game doesn't load) look in....program files/Activision/COD4/miles.....and then the file.....mssmp3.asi delete this file....it will run fine on your machine then.(you should have gotten an error on game start up....iw3.exe encountered an error...blah..blah) this is what stops it from loading on a 32 bit xp proc.

Will that fix improve performance for everyone running an AMD processor?

Ya, Will it? Most of you know my problem, start out great, then turn to crap. (Not talking gaming skillz, lol).

FYI, AMD 64, 4000+ ~2.4, 1024MB Ram, GeForce 6800 gs vid.

the "fix" is for anyone running an AMD Athlon XP(or any non SSE2 instruction set ) cpu that otherwise would not be able to run the game at all. There only seem to be marginal fps benefits to 64 bit systems/dual procs ect.

Hey guys long time no chat. I bought the game and like the single player, but as always online with low ping I still lag out. Just finished empting a mag into a player in the back and he turns and drops me in one burst. Thinking I just wasted my money on this one. Great graphics though.
