For the past several weeks, mainly, there has been a frienzy of retirees,USMC type 1 each, have been recalled to active duty. I am waiting for that letter to arrive any day now. However, being 52, retired for 12 years, and drawing VA for loss of hearing in one ear (an ammo dump exploation back in 72), my search may be in vein.
Tell me your opinion of these old war dogs going back to the front.

Actually, that's a bad answer, but there's no accounting for taste.
If these old war dogs are up to the job, and if they want to, I say more power to them. There are thousands of desk-jockey type jobs in the Armed Forces that seniors could do, freeing up those tasks from the younger generation. Not to mention what all those ol'folks could teach the pups in the ways of experience. I'm 32 now, and I pray to God that in 20-30 years I'll still be able to function like a normal human being without having to wear a pair of Depends.
Operation Human Shield!
If the blue-hair brigade is up to the challenge then go do your thing.
My dad was in for 30 years, did his 3 tours in Vietnam but I guarantee you if he was asked he would jump right into the foray.

First money I'm 55 and still a normal person so there is hope for you.I'm ex navy and sure I want to help but the arm forces are moving so fast in the tech fields we would bogged down in schooling. In 72 you could not shoot around corners using a remote sight system that Incorporated one eye.GPS systems and many more ----.We old vets all want to help

Oh one last thing I didn't die at 27 because I wanted to be around just to bother Big Dick.
There is a precedent for recalling retirees to active duty. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the navy recalled many retirees to man desks and handle keeping the navy running while the younger generation put to sea.

OMG, it's Monev, with a V, not Money. Think I might have to change my name again.
ittle old man....I'm 52, been retired since 92 after the sand box play ground. I spoke with one of my troopers just 2 weeks ago (now a Master Sergeant) and he told me two things why i would never make it in the Coprs today. Pretty funny actually. First, says he, like you said , the techonology based system. No one hardly uses a pen and paper anymore (I never had a desk in 20 years any way), even the map system in use uses the GPS system, (I use to teach map reading and he said they don't teach like that anymore...too out dated). Secondly, says he....i would go to jail if i acted like I did when i was in. He still reminds me of that movie ( I still havent seen it yet) Called Heartbreak Ridge. He says it HAD to of been made about me. I'm gonna have to go rent that movie and see what the hell he's talking about,LOL!! Any way, he told me that todays Corps has too many liberal officer s that would put me in jail for the stuff I use to do. ( I remember once, just before I retired, the idiots tried to put me in the S-3 office...deck job. I ran PT , a 10 K everyday, so after I got back , around 12:30, I streaked up and down the Battalion CP in my jock, yelling OOHHRRAAHH!! He was a Sgt then and said the colonel just poked his head out his hatch , shook it, then went back in. I was put back in my company then till I retired.)
