Just wondering what everyone is thinking about the sv_pure on server number 2!

I have mixed reactions.

Pro:

For once I know I'm not neon red in your sights.

Hiding actually occasionally really works!

The players that have taken the time to set their game up for sv_pure are really dedicated die-hards, and overall seem to have a good level of maturity. I haven't seen anyone flood the chat with PUSSY and FAGGOT yet, anyway! LOL

The feel of the game is once again immersive. I often wish for an entrenching tool to dig a deep hole and survive.

Con:

I really dislike the weapons mod as it stands. SMGs are WAY too accurate and hit too hard at range, making them the best overall weapon in the game. What can I say? I'm a MPSH fan...I LIKE the difference in weapons between the nationalities.

Some of my favorite maps went the way of the Dodo...I guess they were incompatible with the sv_pure thing.

It's disappointing to see so few players on. Saturday afternoon and there's only 10 players in the server. I like a crowd...there's safety in numbers, eh?

What's your thoughts?

to me knowing that the cheats are not there makes the game fun again...the only con is that fewer people are in there....but I think that will change

Personally, I love being able to play knowing there's no cheats. And I definitely love using my smg. It's nice when I point my gun at someone and they actually die instead of me having to put 2 clips into them just to wound them.

And give it time Murph. All the players will be back.

Never did use the SMG much before, as I like the option to tag at range. Was a BAR man myself...damned jumpy on auto fire, but with single shot I used to take on snipers with success.

Having friends that are re-enactors (one is curator of a museum) and having had the opportunity to fire BOTH the BAR abd Thompson, I can tell you that the SMG has a VERY limited effective range. The damned thing will literally roll itself out of your hands...I scared the bejeezus out of the guys on the firing line with my first clip! LOL

I hope I didn't leave the wrong impression! A this point, it's sv_pure or nuthin' fer me!

I think the reason the player counts are low is that MOB, in its infinite wisdom, has removed the means to cheat. Those that did, can't and the thrill is gone. However, this left the pure gamers with a pure challenge--a pure server. I hadn't enjoyed the game and the camaraderie for ages until last Monday when the rebirth Of MOH SH online occurred. The best players responded due to the love of the game not for any edge they gained from a minor cheat. Now it is "mano-a-mano" and all the fields are equalled. Skill rules the day.

Of course, age and treachery over youth and skill is always the way to go as you younger players will learn over time.

Hey Father I wanted to address some things you said here as you made some good points and some things need cleared up.

First the weapons mod. You are correct on your assessment of the smg and it was one of the first things I noticed when the patch came out. Understand that there is a significant difference in the weapons since the patch. They all run smoother and you notice it more on the smg because its rate of fire is faster. As soon as I get a chance to get all the connection issues cleared up with people I plan on retweaking the weapons mod so stay tuned for that. However, understand that this is NOT a realism weapons mod so do not expect that the smg's will mimic their real life counterparts. I claim an EQUAL weapons mod. What that means to me is that if you and I turn the corner together I want us both to have an equal chance at a kill regardless of the weapon chosen. All weapons will differ in specs but settings are offset by each other. For example, the smg's will have slightly higher rof and slightly lower damage numbers than the mg's which is an offset. The range is slightly lower on the smgs, a bit higher on the mgs, and a bit higher still on the rifles. I am satisfied with my weapons mod ONLY when I hear all guns sounds on the server. That to me means people are comfortable with all weapons and not just one.

Custom maps..... there is only 2 maps that I know of that were removed for having an issue with pure and to be honest I was having issues with those maps before pure. Any other maps that were removed were based on user feedback or lagging issues ONLY so everyone needs to get over to Sigma CHi's post about favorite maps and give me feedback. It's hard to know what maps you guys like without some input so if there are maps we have quit playing that you want to see back let me know.

Ahhh! Slowly the light goes on in my brain...that darn dimmer switch hasn't worked properly since the seventies, ya know. Now THAT was a decade for the decadent...

Since I haven't even bothered to log on to another server since I found MOB #2, I didn't realize that the patch had changed our weapons! LOL I thought it was inherent to the sv_pure thing.

I DO realize that MOB #2 and your inspired mod doesn't pretend to be realism. Didn't come around for a long time because of that. But the fact that it silences all that endless carping about "the uber-STG" and "the unusable Mauser", it's well worth the trade-off.

Since I just automatically join the side that has the fewer players (or occasionally the lowest score, if it's a notable difference), I was never that entangled in those discussions...I got to taste the good and bad of either side.

It would be great if on rare occasion the server could have an MPSH day, but then again it'd been great if I'd married Peggy Clikeman (my highschool flame) in my youth, given that now she's worth about 20 million! D'oh! Maybe you could slip it in for April Fool's?

I look forward with gusto to seeing the return of your weapons mod to the server. What the heck are you doing wasting time by reading this?

I think it has it's good points and it's bad points. BUT, I think the good

points out-weigh the bad. Small price to pay to be cheat-free. Takes time to set up

but well worth it when it's running right.
