It is closed right? It isn't just sitting there on Smolensk with 0 people in it for 6 weeks or so now is it?

So why did you let the server die? I liked the old way of choice of BA type on Barbarossa. Or put it as capture the flag or do something? CTF does work on Smolensk.

And if it is still running Smolensk empty, then...uhhh...

I guess it's still on Smolensk, but no one plays it. Probaly will be switched to Tuchola Forest when it enters beta testing.

As far as I know, the map still exists.

The 2nd BA server exists, but Smolensk never gathered a following (mostly due to the broken swamp pak45 and the spawn-raping pak40 in the german spawn).

Well, why don't you make it CTF or something? I find it bizarre that you just let it sit there dead. Hellfighter suggested CTF a long time ago, and was ignored. What is the reason for this? I don't get it.

There are several reasons for it.
1) Early on we were more focused on either CNQ or BAS
2) Later when it became apparent there was an issue with gameplay, Slyk announced he would do one more revision to fix some of the issues players had complained about. Unfortuantely this never happened.
I feel it's only fair to offer an explanation about his one. There has been a few people on this forum complaining about Slyk originally refusing to relelase a fix addressing some of the issues with his final version of Smolensk. Do to the fact Acitivsion/InfinityWard would not relelase Map tools for COD2. Even worse, Act/IW publibly said something along the lines of the modding comunity didn't offer anything worthwhile for COD:UO & therfore didn't matter, so they didn't feel the need to rush a release of tools for COD2. Acitivsion/InfinityWard saying something like that was a huge slap in the face to groups like After-hours & Slyk.
3) We had been expecting the COD2 patch for a while, I don't think anyone thought it would actually take this long. If a patch had been released a little sooner, there was a real possiblity we would be switching the Smolensk server to some type of COD2 server.
4) We were hoping Scarpyardbob would get his map to beta stage a little quicker, which we would likely run on the server now running smolensk.


So for the reasons listed above & several other ones, the smolensk server was kind of left in limbo.

Hopefully you're in the neighbourhood still to answer this Druid ,.... I'm not sure how difficult the procedure is, but while we wait for Bob to fine tune his sweet winter map, is it not possible to give CTF a shot for the time being?
I think that's what all the commentary is about rather than why Smolensk BA/CNQ is being vacant - its more of making use of Smolensk-at least for now - it is an excellent map in CTF as no spawn-rape issues come up. Let's see if Smolensk server can be functional as CTF until SB's map is put into action......
