Holy shit, we're talking serious stuff now!
My early predictions for Conference Finals are;
Eastern
Canes vs Sens
Western (if possible, think it can only work if higher seeds are eliminated like the Ducks knocking out the Flames)
Wings vs Sharks
I think those are the top 4 teams in my opinion.
Nobody mentioned McGriddle points!!!!
I'm IN!!!
Wings in 4
Stars in 5
Ducks in 6
Sharks in 6
Sens in 5
Canes in 7
DEVILS!!!!! in 5 (I do love the Rangers best, but I love me my Devils too)
Sabres 5
Anyone remember back in the good ole days when like every team but the bottem few made the playoffs? Those were the good ole days...

It's on then.
Damn I'm so freaking excited for tonight and this weekend's games. It's been a long absence of playoffs since strike. Really hope Stevie Y can take the cup into retirement with him.
Agreed, it be fitting for a total class act like Yzerman to go out on top.

go easy on BG, he's been on the short bus recently
Hooray for Everything!
Detroit takes game one in the second overtime with a score 3-2.
The Detroit game was exciting. It's great watching playoff hockey when you have no preference over who wins or not. So much more relaxing.
Holy crap, Edmonton looked tough as hell. Roloson is a wall. If the Oilers could figure out some offense, they could take this series if they played all the games like tonight. Go Wings!
Two overtimes in the first night! This is gonna be an exciting playoffs.

Montreal bitches!!!
WTF? Montreal 2-0? Colorado 2-0? This is a pretty awesome round 1 so far. I'm so happy they are putting the games on OLN too. Most games have had great coverage except the Flames/Ducks series. The camera angle is really low and it cuts off most of what I can see. Basically just zoomed in on who has the puck and that sucks cause I can't yell stuff at the players. "Pass in the slot!" "Blueline! Blueline!" "He's getting raped in the corner!"
I'm getting scared. The Redwings are a methodical machine that are all too good... but what scares me is it looks like Edmonton wants it more. They are faster and hungrier than the Wings right now. Roloson is a freaking wall too.
What's up the the Rangers? I didn't expect to see them go down so easily, but I guess losing your top two offensive threats and defensemen will hurt you like that. The Devils went through the season pretty dull but as usual seem to bring their A game into the playoffs.
I don't even want to talk about Dallas... ugh.
Flames and Ducks series has been awesome so far. Back and forth hockey all night.
Tampa just sucks at defense. You gotta feel bad for the goalies when they have to do it all by themselves.
Do the Flyers know they are in the playoffs or are they already playing golf?
Who saw Chara fight Lecalvier (spelling?)? At the end when he could've just destroyed him, and he didn't, that was classy on his part, maybe showing some respect eh?
That was Chara letting Vincent know who OWNS him.
gg rangers. I was at the game tonight. One of the most depressing moments of my young life. Devils score 68 seconds in... highlights of the evening were definetely the two devil fans sitting next to me getting verbally abused for 40 minutes + chants of "Hepatitis" and "Go fuck your wife's sister Marty".
Hockey = dead to me for the next 5 months.

Since when do you have a say over Mcgriddle points Brad? You don't, to answer that question.
Canes finally win one last night, WHEW!
go sabres! 2-2 hope we win on sunday!
All I have to say is that i'm very disappointed in my Stars. I follow them all season long and get excited about the playoffs, only for a let down.
The Stars still played tough... they're missing a few elements to go all the way though. Give Jokinen another year or two in that system and he'll be stepping up as Modano retires.

Yeah I was happy they fought through all the bad bounces and stuff like that. I am excited to see what Jokinen becomes in the future. Unfortunately Turco has still been unable to prove himself in the playoffs.

Ya, the wings just lost. Tough break for them but the Avs will have a better chance.

You should be banned!

j/k
It should've gone into overtime, but apparently knocking down the puck with a high stick and kicking it into the net counts in the new NHL. Ref's should be fined for bad calls!
That game had too many non-calls on both sides. I'm so pissed. I was watching the first period and my girl said we needed to go out shopping for a bit (that'll be a different thread

). I set Tivo to record the game, no prob. We get home an hour or so later and I get all the way up to Frazen scoring making it 3 - 2 Wings. Suddenly, 4 minutes to go, Wings are sailing to victory and my Tivo cuts to the Ducks/Flames game. WTF? I start freaking out. Basically Tivo records the station's set time for games so it missed the last 10ish minutes in which the Oilers score two goals. I'm pretty devastated, only cause I can imagine what Yzerman is going through right now. Most likely his last game. So bummed.
Wonder why they never pulled Legace in the series, he wasn't as hot as he was during the regular season. Side note: Hat nod to Rolison... I could see them riding him through the next series possibly. I've seen the Oilers do this before, they give 110% in the first round and burn out quickly. The Wings could've played stronger this entire series but I think they were pacing themselves for the long stretch. Oh well. I think this is solidifying chances for Colorado and San Jose for the Conference Finals unless Anaheim wins, then I think SJ and COL would play against each other in the next round which would be an awesome series.
Well now I don't feel as bad about the Stars getting beat, now that the other top western conference team is out. Although, it really sucks for both the wings and stars since they both had such great regular seasons.
Playoffs are always a new season, fresh slate. It's actually common for top seeds to get knocked off because they built up their record over a period of months and might not be in synch when they hit the post season. Most of the bottom seeds, 6-8, had been fighting for those positions over the past month and are usually pretty hot when they come into the playoffs. Just my opinion.
I think that makes a lot of sense. As far as the stars, their last few season games didn't matter one bit. They rested their star players (pardon the pun) and weren't playing at the top of their game going into the playoffs. On the other hand, based on the way they were playing in the regular season, i think they would have been able to take more games from Colorado; and probably the same for Detroit against Edmonton. But I think you're right, those lower seeded teams played like they had a sense of urgency and were ready to go.
Flames will take the West now.
My Pick: Flames v. Sabres
I want the Sharks to win though...

Cuz Osgood was or is injured. And the back up was Howard. A rookie who didnt play much in the regular season, And when he did play it wasnt impressive.
I would've tried Howard, but hindsight is always 20/20. Legace is probably out of Hockeytown now. He didn't face too many shots in the entire series and looked sloppy. Granted the Wings could've provided some better offense, but I still think all teams need to ride hot goalies into the playoffs and Legace wasn't at that caliber at the right time.
