Genocide Junkie
09/18/06 10:33am
Hey guys/gals. This thread was inspired by T/A6pak showing where her name came from. I thought it might be neat for everyone to tell where their name came from or why they chose it.
Mine comes from a song by Black Label Society fronted by arguably the best guitarist around Zakk Wylde. I chose the name because to me it relates to the game because Genocide is exactly what the Germans were doing to the Jews. Junkie is exactly what I am for this game. I play it all the time... Thus Genocide Junkie.
Tell us yours now....
Junkie
Lord Lipton
09/18/06 11:04am
i agree with the Zakk Wylde thing, genocide! he's amazing.
anyway, lipton. some people will get a kick out of this...despite all the enormous amounts of "HEY TEAMAN" comments, lipton was first Sgt. Lipton, and became I am Lord Lipton, before i inherited my Regs tags. the actual Lipton part, as alot of you can guess, came from the HBO series Band of Brothers..
though i cannot say Lipton was my favorite guy in all those ep's he's definitely tied for one of 'em. but Sgt. Winters or Babe Hefron just didn't sound as good as Lip.
haha, there you go!
Rommel is from the desert fox Erwin Rommel. He was one of German's best panzer field marshal . "quotation from Rommel:"Sweat saves blood, blood saves lives, and brains saves both." "Mortal danger is an effective antidote for fixed ideas." "The best form of welfare for the troops is first-rate training." "Don't fight a battle if you don't gain anything by winning." "In a man-to-man fight, the winner is he who has one more round in his magazine." "Courage which goes against military expediency is stupidity, or, if it is insisted upon by a commander, irresponsibility." "In the absence of orders, find something and kill it." Referring to Italians: "Good troops, bad officers. But remember that without them we wouldn't have civilization." "Training errors are recorded on paper. Tactical errors are etched in stone." "It is not a Commonwealth division, it is an Australian Division. Why, give me two Australian Divisions and I will conquer the world for you!" "Mortal danger is an effective antidote for fixed ideas."

1) I feel like my wife's mule at times.
2) It's a unique name, never saw anyone that had a name even close to it.
3) I liked the in game line "You killed : My Wifes Mule"
4) Thought it up while I was playing COD as the wife was pestering me about doing something.
5) I sure didn't want to be another Killer this or Killa that or Speirs or Winters or Malarky etc. etc. etc.
6) See #1.

Kleerance
09/18/06 5:40pm
Kleerance is an odd story actually. I play a lot NHL Hockey from EA sports, and there you are not allowed to use a name others have picked. So I thought something about "Clear the zone", so it became Kleerance (with a K and double e).
I try to clear the the bases in this game as well, with "mixed" luck I must admit.
Now I use
Kleerance in any game.
The story of Meowman...
Well i get into games when my friends (really only one persuasive friend) tells me its good, gets me to go to best but or w/e, and buy it with gift cards from holidays. So we first started playing runescape, being my first MMO, i loved it. I started playing it on my friends birthday, my name...Meowmix106. Yes, it is related to the song. So the next game he got me to but was CoD, he played and another one of my friends played (he was in praetorians alliance, which is now v4c i think, he no longer plays *cry*) So basically, i wanted to keep a meow theme, so i chose meowman.
I've recently decided to use the name Pancakes instead bacause i love pancakes and i was tired of being called gay or other various terms by idiots.
My name has nothing to do with the Browning Automatic Rifle, or BAR.

Been using this nick for about 6 years now. Not sure why I chose it, but I suppose it has something to do with my nationality...
Started online gaming with Delta Force 2 - only played the demo version, but the demo version actually had quite a cult following, with clans, matches, etc.
There was A LOT of inter(and intra)-clan drama back then too!
Have pretty much always used the same name...

OK
here is a good one.
The touch tone terrorists prank phone callers. It is actually one guy, who uses a harmonizer to sound like about 4-5 guys. You may know a few of the prank phone calls from Comedy centrals "crank yankers". I miss it. SO, he does all these hilarious voices, and one is a stoner dude who is working in a warehouse or something and this lady calls, she is all pissed and he is literally blowing her off.. she is getting more and more wound up, and he says, "come on man, don't be a flatliner." My buddy and I began using that term for anyone who was a downer. We took the term with us to PreKatrina new orleans and met a dude named bobby who drank for 11 hours and passed out. We called him bobby flatliner..... we called anyone who was a drag, a flatliner and still do.. It started out as a joke, because of the "you killed flatliner" was so damn funny to me, and then you all were communicating with me calling me flatliner (of course) and I was dying..... when it spread to vent... and I think it was 6 pak who first said it, HEY FLATLINER I could not respond. I was laughing so hard, and she said, "are you there" and i could not stop laughing. she though i was ignoring her... LOL. Oh and by the way, for future reference, all the crap going down makes all those dudes TOTAL flatliners.....HAAAA
Not as good of a story as it was long ....

When I first started using it in 1995, MC Hammer had nothing to do with it. I was playing against my nephew who called himself "Sniper" in Marathon 2: Durandal - the original Halo built for Macs only.
I liked to drop the hammer on sniper and the name was born. My nephew grew up outside Boston, so the spelling indicates the proper pronunciation. You have to say it like the Cheers television series character, Cliff Clavin would with that heavy Boston accent. "Hey ah, it's ah, like ah, hamma time!"
I ended up embracing the MC Hammer reference because "you can't touch this" was a wonderful, tongue-in-cheek statement about online virtual gaming.
Wow, this thread has to be one of the best I've read in awhile!!! Cpt.SnotRocket...we're still waiting for your story...or does your picture say it all??? Sending you some kleenex:)

I always liked names of various minerals. I was Obsidian for a long time, which is a black volcanic glass, sharper than the sharpest surgical steel. That's pretty much me:
sharp but fragile. Got sick of that and chose Onyx, again another (usually) black mineral. Added the "Sir" onto the front while in my last clan after finally winning the
Order of the Bath medal and gaining my knighthood.
1.) I did not take the name from the mid 90's rap group.
SLAM!2.) I did not take the name from Pokemon. That name is spelled Onix. I am 27, I grew out of pokemon... gee like
months ago.

I used to make and sell devil sticks. I am, if I do say so myself, a devil stick god. I only ever met one person who could do a trick i couldn't (playing two sticks simultaneously... one with each hand) , and I could do about a dozen other tricks he couldn't.
My name is Dave. As everybody knows at least a dozen Dave's, the name "Dave" needs a modifier. I became known as "Devil Stick Dave" or "Stickman Dave".
When i got heavily into "
Stars!" (best multiplayer strategy game ever... name another game that can be played on a 386 and is still going strong!) in the mid 90's, I took to calling the races i designed and played "the Stickmen". Somewhere in there I started using "Stickman" as my online name, and i've never looked back.

Boston accents ftw!!!
Anyways, my name originated when I was in my first clan for the original CoD. We were a snipers only clan, and back then I was the best player in the clan. Everyone claimed that I could never be seen, so one of my clan members said, "Damn Steve, you are like a bloody ghost!!" and the rest is history.
Some of you have seen me playing CoD2 lately with the name Sky Dog.. . The reason behind that name is that its the nickname of one of my favorite guitarists of all time, Duane Allman.
My in-game name is SGT_Steel.
The way I came up with it is that the first time I stepped into an on-line shooter, it scared the crap outta me. I mean, there were players everywhere and I simply spawned & died. I thought, man, I need a name that gives me strength, so I instantly thought of "steel" - voila, SGT_Steel was born.

Just so you all know...when I got into MOBRegs I was using the name 440Cuda. I played more then the Cudad and confused alot of people when posting... and on vent. (Boy, cudadad has a girly voice)...lol after everyone started telling me we needed different names.... this post began--->
#91011 and this is the beginning of my gaming name. Since that times I have also used (once or twice) GI Jane. Usually when I am playing with GIJoe...LOL

No exciting story here. I usually play under the name Chief Wiggum. See where I am going with this? I know its not original but cartoon characters have great names. When COD came, I had to get a German sounding name. As it turns out McBain is really good with guns and has a german sounding name.
I thought I was the only one left who remembers the "old" 930 club.

Flatliner,
Not that I am bragging but I was born in DC. Now I live in Va but spent most of my life in MD.
No matter how much you like the Simpsons, it can't be unhealthy. Its not like its crack but I do get the shakes when I can't watch it on Sunday. I think Fox needs to take a 30 minute break from the world series just for the Simpsons. No offense to baseball fans but the Simpsons is so much better and alot more entertaining.
M@ster of Dis@ster
10/16/06 2:47pm
Mine is because
A) It rhymes

Because it kinda ambigious as to what it really means. A Master of Disaster...is that a good thing, or a bad thing? Do you want someone who has "mastered disasters" on you team or against you? Am I living up to my name when I do something good like kill 3 guys with a rocket, or something dumb, like back the KV1 heavy into my own mine field (which btw way kills only you and not the tank, meaning you then have to go over and finish it off with a rocket!). I figure it's a bit of both!
The only other online game I played (Starcraft and Warcraft) I used to use Cuban Assassin, but I decided that was kinda confusing because I'm not Cuban. He was a fat wrestler with an enormous head of hair and puffy beard from Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestler. If you ever saw him, you'd laugh. NoClassBobBass got his nick from another wrestler from that circuit, No Class Bobby Bass. Ahhhh, a great wrestling name if ever there was one.
If I had it to do over again, I'd do something shorter than Master of Disaster, but never figured I'd be playing COD this long. Luckiy, it does shorten up to "MOD" pretty easily.

Good to see some others still remember the old 9:30 Club! Grew up in MD and live in VA. As for my name - it is a song by White Zombie. I always thought the name was pretty cool and really dig the first line of the song (which is my sig.). I started using it when I played Quake 2. I played the SuperHeroes mod of that game a lot (anyone remember that mod?), sometimes under the name Jester. I also sometimes go by CrAZy cAt LaDY (Eleanor Abernathy from The Simpsons). So many cool stories behind some of these names. I like what you wrote about your name M@ster of Dis@ster (that its not apparent whether it is a good thing or bad thing). It was funny.
I find it funny that we have such a large population of dc area players here.i grew up in maryland as well. dont you have to be canadian? j/k.
NoClassBobBass
10/17/06 5:42am
Well I agree with 6 pak this is an interesting string so here goes for me
NoClassBobBass this name actually comes from a wrestler that used to be on Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling lol. Which was actually a really awful wrestling show looking back at it know but Back in the old days when me and Mod (Master of Disaster) were just little ticks we used to watch this all the time because of course Being here on PEI back in the 70's and 80's we only had TFS (short for 2 f**king stations) so we had little choice but to know all the names of our local Wrestlers and actually they came to local towns so if you wished you could go see them. So the guy i took my name from was actually called NoClassBobbyBass.
I just thought this was a cool name for a wrestler and I figured it would be an original on pretty much any gaming site and so far I've never seen it any where else. I had to shorten the Bobby To Bob because it just didn't fit in some of the games name slots . It also makes for fun redirect when a bunch of use get together for Xbox Halo parties no one like's being killed by NoClass he just has NoClass lol
Any way thats my story hope to see more on here this has been a very interesting string
