Full Version: So, what's with the maker's of COD anyway...?

When Call of Duty 2 came out, I thought I had it figured. They "stripped" out the stuff that they had added to the COD:UO expansion. Features like sprinting, using tanks in MP, and multiplayer modes like Base Assult. Of course, they were waiting to incoporate that into the "COD2:UO" expansion, or so I figured.

So, instead they never release an expansion, meaning they released a game far more limited than it's own predecessor, then move right on to COD3 with a big, giant action-smiley-055.gif to PC gamers by ignoring them completely.

Have the COD makers taken it upon themselves to try and put the screws to PC owners and force them to move over to game consoles? I mean really, WTF? Throw in their decision to screw over the modder crowd by not releasing any development info or tools, and you seem to have a developer that takes pleasure in trying to love-smiley-076.gif the PC gamers who carried the gaming industry for many years, and whom all their jobs can ultimately be track back too!

I know that COD2 sold many more copies for XBOX than PC, but IMO that was because of the developers own greed. Remember my intial theory about them holding back features already incorperated into COD:UO expansion because I thought they were going to add it in the "next" COD2 expansion? Well, that's why I personally NEVER bought COD2. I was waiting for the expansion that'd have the featues I like in multiplayer, and was going to buy both. Instead, the brilliant makers of COD decided my money must not be as good as console gamers (funny...looks the same to me), because they never bothered to follow through on what MUST have been the original plan. I mean really, why release a sequel with far fewer muliplayer options and game types than the original?

Now, I've read some stuff online about all this and who owns the COD franchaise seems to have gone through some turmoil, so it is hard to figure out who's to blame for all this stupidity, but someone is. Someone, somewhere said "fuck the PC. Sure we'll make money, more money, but our return on investment will be at a slightly lower percentage....gotta maximize the growth points so we can cash in our stock options!" Well, frankly, that's bs.gif

Sooo, these leads to a question/comment. Someone on vent (can't remember who...sorry) mentioned that there's a COD4 already planned, and that they actually are considering making the game available to PC gamer low-lifes like us. Anyone have any details. Any boards out there, who's making it? Because if it's true, I'd sure like to send and E-mail about how to make the game with ALL features enabled in the original, and then maybe PC fans will buy the damn game, and THEN they can add new stuff to the expansion pack they never did before. How hard would that be? Add planes, and a few new game types. You know....start with your best foot forward, then add to it, as opposed to trying to keep us happy by lowering our expectations, and being surprised when people don't buy! cussing.gif

End rant. Thoughts?

I saw this at call of duty hq.

Below are some interviews we've had with the associated developers and producers of the Call of Duty franchise.

I´m planning to buy PS3, when it´s available here and COD3 for it. Until that I´m playing BAS on UO MP, because I bought COD2 and noticed my video card started to melt everytime I tried to play it. COD2 was and has been disappointment anyways, because no sprinting, no tanks, no BAS, stupid keyboard settings, etc........ I´m really disappointed for the makers of COD2 and can´t wait anything special of COD4 for PC gamers, when ever it´s released....

Just my crappy 2 cents mobrules.gif

As far as the game play goes for COD2 I think it's lots better than COD1. I think the thing UO did was add tanks etc which changed it from a FPS to some degree. Not that it's a bad thing it is just different. I'm sure there are reasons that they don't offer COD3 on PC. Probably same as why they don't offer Big Red 1....

I also have a hard time getting cod2 to play well on my computer with out the video card craping out. I thought the game play and game types would have been better then they are, the maps are also to small.

I think the only thing it has is good graphics and the single player wasen't bad, but some of us with lower end computers have a hard time running the game.

As for cod4, its gonna be a wait and see situation when it comes out and then I'll have alot of questions for the people that bought it.

The last thing I need is another expensive cd coaster.

A lot of things might be better in COD2 vs COD1, but nothing explains removing sprinting, "cooking" gernades, a big list of multi-player types, the ability to drive tanks, etc. which were all the upgrades already familiar to us in COD:UO. Really, there would have been almost 0 extra effort to add these to COD2. They must have been holding them back for an expansion pack, nixed it, and bizarrely totally nixed the next game for PC.

There was no excuse, for example, for skipping base assult. Look at a seach for game types for UO, and BA is extremely popular. I think the makers were greedy, many PC gamer balked a little waiting for the features they wanted, and the makers since have bizarrely done almost everything in their power to alienate or simply ignore the PC market.

I mean, look at me. 2 years since I got UO, I still play it. I would have shelled out good money for COD2 or its expansion if it had base assult and tanks. Not everyone needed COD2 to have those features to be happy, but I did. A lot of people did. And if the expansion and sequel were cancelled for PC because of less than expected sales, the thing is it was only their fault. Instead of fixing it, the make it worse by abandoning PC gamers until 2008. At that rate, COD:UO is probably the only COD I'll play until I move on to a completely new franchaise.

It's just sad to see one of my favorite games of all time be treated so shabbily by its own makers because they've decided they love consoles, and consider PC's a nuisance market.

" I mean, look at me. 2 years since I got UO, I still play it."

Your not the only one. Just look at MOB for instance, most play UO as I do almost exclusively.

Whoever called the shots at Activision or Infinity Ward steped on their own dicks by alienating alot of hard core cod fans as MOD stated,

"Throw in their decision to screw over the modder crowd by not releasing any development info or tools."

I know this one pissed of alot of people, especially SLYK the mapper who gave us Barb, he refused to buy COD2.

Glad I never gave a dime to those hacks for COD2. COD1 can be improved but as witnessed by your servers and many others, it's still a viable platform.

More eye candy does not make a better game.

I guess by the time COD4 comes around I'll need a new alienware machine to run it, not that that is the end of the world.

COD (original) was made by Infinity Ward.
UO expansion was made by a different company.
COD2 was again made by Infinity Ward but no expansion.
COD3 is being made by Infinity Ward for Consoles only.
COD4 will be made by IW for the PC's.
Just what COD's 3 & 4 will be like is still in the works
but COD3 is very close to being released.
COD4 is still quite a mystery but hopefully not for long....

i think they should be really creative and remake carantan ,harbor and all the other cod1 maps AGAIN! i dabble in cod2 and im the worst player ever! honestly,i am! everythings so small its hard for me to see across the map.the desert maps i can play a little better though.

i do agree with shadow on one thing though, the weapons i do like. the bolts are fun because extremely accurate.all this is drowned out by the massive nade spamming on these tiny maps .i like to play a few rounds of cod2 right before i go into u/o base assault because my reflexs are 10 times quicker, hehe!

Actually, COD3 was developed by Treyarch and Pi Studio's.

A quick review of websites suggests COD4, whenever it is released, is likely not WW2 based. More likely modern based.

COD3 release date of Nov 8...for consoles only as stated.

UO i think is the best so far cod2 i wish you could sprint that really changes my game when i dont sprint

i dont think cod2 has many tank maps either

I tried UO lastnight on the modern weapons server. I don't know how yall play that after playing COD2. The graphics are so bad it's hard to play. You guys talk about the maps being small in COD2 but because you move so fast in UO it feels really small. It seemed really jerky and hard to recognize players on the board.... maybe I'll give it another chance sometime but it was bad.... really bad....
