I remember back in the day when there was a smolensc classic server, and it was awsome, so I was wandering can it be don that in the classic barbarossa there is put an option to vote to change map, and smolensk woul;d be only other choice(other thab barbarossa) but the rotation would remain barbarossa only, and when the smolensk match was over it would restart to old barbarossa. Cause after a classic barb game people levae, because how many games consecutivly can you have on the same map? So when people would gather to have a game, we could decide if we'd like to give smolensk a go.
No to change rotation, just add a smolesnk option for when we organize and have games... I think it would do something to ither bring people in, or keep from leaving after jsut one game...
If something like that can't be done i understand...
You can't have a map that's available to a game vote without it being in the rotation.

Oh, i didn't know.
Maybe we should add Smolensk to the rotation with Barb - its mostly empty now...
I'll add Smolensk, no problem, but I'd kinda like a couple more people to okay the change first.
Anyone else want to speak up?

Agreed. It's good on MWBA, so it'll be good on stock weapons too!
Oh, and Steel:
A problem with Smolensk (other than the glitching on MWBA

) is the rear pak behind the German spawn. It was a point of contention years ago when we were running the map and I beilieve one of our guys (ScrapyardBob) removed or disabled that rear pak in an update. Could you see if you can find that amended version?

i actually was a big fan of smolensk ,was sad when no one wanted it anymore.this pak gun is a must to be blocked or disabled.

In fact, it was Mr. Canuck who pratically killed the map with the mastery of that gun. My angriest post ever was based on that day. I think it was titled "The Smolensk map can go to hell!!!"
Once that gun was removed things were fine, but the map had already lost popularity by then. I used to play it on CTF on another server and it was great fun.

Yeah, I used it all the time, but I didnt enjoy it. Well, actually, I did enjoy it, but, uh... yeah. I felt a little guilty afterward...kinda.
Although I was the one who first asked for it to be disabled!

It's kinda fun reading these old thread about Smolensk lol. It also seems that Druid might have made the change to the map to disable that gun... can we check with him?

Great find and info Canuck!! We're already running version 1.1. So I read through that thread you gave, and then looked around inside the server box for any files laying around. I found two files that contained server-side fixes for Smolensk. Looks like at least one of them contains the code that Druid wrote that fixes the pak problem.
I've added these to the server and restarted it to take effect. Since I'm not a regular BAS player, you guys will have to let me know if things are now fixed.
Now, the fixes are for an earlier version of the map, so, if this doesn't work, I might need to go in and change the code or whatnot to make it work with 1.1. So, I'll need your feedback. Thanks again!

I just took a quick look - before I head to work - and it seems that rear German pak gun is still there...
So maybe we've got to find another solution.

Yep, that map fix that Druid wrote is only for the old version of the Smolensk map. I don't have the mapping expertise to fix it, nor the inclination to dig into it to learn how. Any volunteers?
There is another After-hourz bas map we could try, called Lazur. Anyone want to give that a try in place of Smolensk?

As I remember, I think they just basically "sunk" the pak 20 feet underground! Not sure if anyone knows how to do that, but I think that was the coding fix.

Very sure.
And yeah, Druid wrote a fix to sink that gun.
Smolensk tends to shed people as the game goes along. With all the glitches and lag issues all you hear is people bitching the whole time and they eventually just quit. I for one wouldn't mind trying Lazur, has anyone played it?

I like the cloaking device people were using.... it made it, um, interesting... fun games though, the visiblity on such a large flat map is fun, like broadsword.

It's been a while, but I've played Lazur, as well as Vitebsk. Both were a lot of fun but it was a loooong time ago and I couldn't really compare them to Barb or Smolensk at this point as far as strategy and gameplay goes. Any room on one of the boxes for a test bed where we can take a look at maps before promoting them to the main boxes?

I stopped by Smolensk a day or so ago and again last night.
Boy thats a big map and will take a bit of time for me to learn it thats for sure.
I liked it,so it bleeps,and sometimes things appear and disapear.
I'm sure in time our most wonderful team of computer experts "Ms.Steel and Old Man Mike' will put an end to those problems and hopefully the server will be off to the races. Thanks guys/gals for your efforts,they are appreciated im sure by all.
It's funny in the early afternoon i logged on and "i dont even know this map at all" and i was doing so well.i was shooting them up up ..It was like i was a god...LOL...I"ll show you a screeny down below....
So later in the night i logged on and figured let the games begin baby im ready...Well that was short lived...lol..Flatliner was there snipping away and my old friend Undead was there as well knocking them or me down...I almost text in to say WOULD someone PLEASE stand still so i can atleast get One kill Pleeeaasssee....LOL..I was like a lead foot and could'nt move for beans and when i did get going it was like BLAM your Dead...lol...Still it was fun and i'm still looking forward to my next painful lesson in Smolensk.

I liked Vitebsk too.... and Pegasus Bridge is a real beauty of a classy map.
I think Smolenk's reputation was irretrievably tarnished here two years ago by that shed spawn.
I play Smolensk and Broadsword every time I see them listed on
the MP servers. My 2 favorites now along with some of the stock
BAS maps...
