I just changed it in multiplayer options, works fine. OMM, don't know about modifying your player config file, 'cause I wouldn't want to risk losing rank points.

Speaking of losing rank points, I read that if you play on a modded server, you automatically lose all your rank points!!! After you've played on a modded server, then go to a ranked server, you're back to 0.

In UO I changed mine by editing the config file. It allowed me to have a longer name than I could have in the in-game setup screen. If you take a look at the COD4 config file (open with Wordpad) and search for your existing name) you might be able to change it there to make it longer.

Your mileage may vary. No warranties expressed or implied. Proceed at your own risk.

Don't worry about the name change causing a loss of rank points. I modified that and quite a few other things in the player config file without any loss of rank.

And I doubt that playing a modded server will cause any rank loss. In fact, I'm going to give that a try later tonight.

Here's the link to see where I got it (that you'd lose your rank if you played on a modded server) http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=71284

There is a way to play a modded server without losing rank. (I lost my rank in the process of learning how to do this so try not to kill the Old Guy while he rebuilds it back up)

1) Go to your player's profile folder containing the config_mp.cfg

2) Create a subfolder called "backup"

3) Copy the config_mp.cfg and mpdata files to that backup folder

4) You can now play on a modded server. After you are done, copy the two files in the backup folder back to the player's profile folder.

5) You can now return to a ranked server with no loss of rank.

Thanks private, now, get a haircut button that top button! LOL!

BTW, if you read that link in my post, it also says you lose rank if you play on an unmodded server the play on a modded server. So, we'll have to use your trick for that one as well.

Good work!
Stryker9
All the chars I can use are "MOB_Stryker9" (12)
Even if I use the entrie name in the config file, it
still won't show up in the game more than 15 chars.
"{MOB}[Regs]Stry"
