Full Version: "Realism" server?

I understand that MOB had set up a "COD4 realism server" when it first came out. Is there any thought to providing one of these?

Don't know what you mean. We did not put up any modded COD4 servers, they are all stock. Oh, but the first of the small COD4 servers we put up was originally what is called an "old school" server.. didn't really add realism though.

That must have been it - don't know for sure, I never saw it and understand it was passworded.

So no plans for a realism server i guess? (no spawn, objective based, high weapon damage, no hud, etc)

at sometime since the release of the game i remember a MOB server that did not show the compass, remaining ammo, and killing someone was a one shot affair for the most part. i would have associated that with a "realism server". if we never had one then i must have been somewhere else a lot. in either case this would be a great game option as the server i played on was a real good time.

if you haven't been on one you should try it. it adds a great deal of "reality" to the game and is rather fun.
Ouch
I think those are called the hardcore servers, I also played on it and reminded me alot of our MW servers from CODUO.

Ah, I think you mean a "harcore" server. When a server is set to "hardcore" you don't have any hud or other info at all, and no crosshairs. All of the guns shoot with extra-impact so that yes, it's usually a one shot from across the map kill.

Because of the extra strength of the guns, I've seen postings on the net calling this a noobie setup, lol.

We did have the 8.9.4.86 server setup as Hardcore for a couple of days when COD4 first started. Some loved and others hated it. That server is now the private server and although it is called HQ 24, it should probably become just a general Private COD4 server for pratice and matches.

Big P has suggested that we have a public Hardcore HQ server. I suspect a lot of the UO guys like hardcore because it does not show enemy position when they fire their weapons and the bullets hit harder. This is similar to UO while the normal compass mode is similar to COD2.

Since COD4 is the first game to bring so many UO and COD2 folks together, I think we should do whatever it takes to keep the game attractive to both camps. While I don't think we should convert our one private COD4 server, we may be able to bring another COD4 server on line. With the reduced slots on the Modern Weapons servers, we are now running around 40% processor loading so another server should be possible.

Since Steel has been taking care of the Stats side, I am mindful that adding servers increases her work load. It also increases the down time at the 6am reset which is hurting us in the server ranking (take a look at how long it takes for players to come back after that reset). As long as Steel is OK with the stats side, I'll add the Hardcore HQ server later today. We might also relook at what could be done about reseting the servers at 6am (not real hopeful we can do much).

The data I took with the large servers (32-player) is that the logfile nears the dangerous 100MB mark after just 2 days. From my coduo experience, if a game logfile exceeds 100MB, the server will get laggy and then begin crashing.

But I've not looked at the data for the smaller cod4 servers. If it takes a week for those game logfiles to hit the 100MB mark, then yes, we could set it to wait a week to reset and "store-off & delete" the logs for those servers.

I could also graph a study to find the time when the large cod4 servers are used the least, and I could make those servers restart daily at that time period.

There is one other option. So far, there is no way to make vsp stats work for cod4. That's why we're using gametracker stats for COD4 right now. So, we could turn off making logfiles. The upside would be that the cod4 servers wouldn't have to be restarted at all. The downside would be that we could not retroactively ban players who are cheating or violating other rules such as bad language.

Some good ideas although I certianly don't want to turn off the logging.

If we can limit the resets to 6am Monday and Thursday, then we are probably least likely to lose players and that will probably keep us with a good margin of 50 mb or less for the log files.

If MOB does set-up a Hardcore server, I would request that it be of SAB and/or HQ type. Thanks
