It's predicted to be one of the best FPS multiplayer games ever - where teamwork is essential. It's a THQ game - same as Company of heroes. Anybody heard of it? pimp.gif

Stryker9
Yes, I have heard of it. The trailer indicates that which ALL modern
FPS games should have. WORKING VEHICLES !!

JIM
Midnight Rambler
What is the big deal about vehicles? In UO the jeeps are death traps and the tanks aren't much better. If you are into realisim, whatever that means in a video game, then you have to know that the average infantryman in WWII never got near a tank or a jeep. Having half of each team mounted on vehicles way over represents their importance in combat.

Stryker9
If you are talking about WW2 realism, just remember this: that
soldier NEVER respawned after being killed !!! An FPS foot-soldier
game always amounts to a run-n-gun for the kiddies to play....
Here is a review on Frontlines from Gamespy:

That review makes it seem a logical progression for our 6v6 and 8v8 UO teams. The ability to control drones by flying them by wire from the ground really intrigues me. I also love the concept of battling along a discernible line of battle - something we always try to achieve in our TWL matches.

Any one else have good intel on this game and its potential as a multiplayer we can compete with? I see it is due to ship on February 12 for WinXP.

I believe the game is scalable so you can run it on older systems and still pull decent frame rates.

The paragraph that peaked my interest from the GameSpy review was this:

In an effort to break away from classically scripted FPS design (seen most notably in games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Halo 3) which keeps players on a fairly linear path, tripping scripted moments as you go, Frontlines uses a new technique: frontlines. The idea is that wars are typically fought where one side comes into violent contact with the other, creating battle lines that stretch across a battlefield. Frontlines puts you right on the ragged edge, and it's up to you to decide which targets of opportunity you want to tackle first.

I also like the idea that you can select your choice of weapons and this isn't limited by your class of soldier.

There are a series of informative video demos here.

KAOS seems to have done an amazing job of configuring a battlefield that can employ and disable armored cavalary as well as airborne vehicles. The idea of deploying EMPs to disable vehicles in the vicinity means an infantryman will be able to force a man from his tank (I can hear some_help's satchels plopping under my heavy as I write this). This has great potential.

KAOS has put up a terrific community website. Check it out: http://www.frontlineswar.com/

Just found these system requirements for the beta:

Thanks for the heads up, Jim. I was able to grab a copy. They say they are only releasing a limited number, so we should all jump on this soon. I'll be anxious to hear what others think of it.
HammaTime
They've pushed back the expected release date for Frontlines until Feb 25.

Dave,

I'm going to try and download this tonight. My connection is not terribly fast but we'll see. I'll let ya know if I get it up and running.
muncus
Im buying it.....

Stryker9
I bought this game, takes some PC horsepower to run though....
It's what COD4 should have been and wasen't !!
Big Maps and all kinds of vehicles & weapons...

JIM
Shred
I just bought it.

Took awhile to get it going with Vista, but I got it done.

Its pretty amazing. The vehicles drive great. The guns kick quite abit but I don't mind.

Looks like there are quite a few servers too.

Robert
I noticed a lot of the servers are empty.
Makes me wonder how many companies offered specials like Gameservers.com did for .99cents/slot .
I would love to see how crazy the action gets on the huge Ronin server.
Has anyone tried the server when it had a lot of people on it?
If they can run a 100+ player server without it causing the server to be a laggy P.O.S. I would be very impressed.
HammaTime
I've played on some of the big servers. I wasn't thrilled with the gameplay, and lag issues were very apparent when shooting over long distances.

The game is an awful lot of fun, and getting the single player is certainly worth what the game costs alone.

I wish I had more time to be playing. It seems to be a no-brainer that this is a game we could all enjoy together.
Stryker9
Be sure & get the game patched tp 1.02....

JIM
Shred
A word of catuion for Vista users.

The game uses Disc 2 instead of Disc 1 and starts through Windows Media Center rather than Programs.

Also, when downloading the patch, dont choose "save" choose "run" or it doesn't work. Don't use the first couple download links they are much slower than the last few. (4 hours vs. 15 minutes)

Just my observations.

Jim, you have to be in heaven bombing around on those humvees. The moment I climbed into one, I thought of you and how incredibly deadly you'd be in it. The guttural sound of the engine is outstanding. I loved the introduction to the vehicle in the single player, how you could race it up those big flights of stairs. What a hoot.
Cross of Iron
me thinks we should get on a server sometime and have us some fun.

I've always liked the way you think, mate!

We need access to vent. I haven't had a chance to explore our options. Anyone have some suggestions?
Cross of Iron

Someone I know who rents ventrilo servers, setup a freebie one for me when we were playing LOTRO
I'll PM you guys the info, use it whenever you want.

Shred
A couple good servers:

{BC] Full Rotation (great frames, no lag) 64.34.200.185

[MOH}Dedicated

Look for me in those if you want a piece of Shred biggrin.gif

And as always, everyone is welcome in BLAM! vent. We have COD4, UO and Frontlines channels.

That is outstanding! Thank you, sir!

I just PM'd a good friend from up north to let him know I'm a bit tied up at the moment, but after May 2 I hope to be able to get into Frontlines on a more regular basis.

Thanks for the offer as well, Shred. Sounds like we can get things wired up.

Now, we need to get Bargod, Hellfighter, James, Robert and others hooked up with copies of Frontlines.

I was suppose to have had surgery on my ankle last Friday but it was put off at the last minute.
I get a little stab of pain with every step, they're not sure it it's a bone spur or micro tears in my tendon.
Whatever it is, it sucks ass.
Once it's fixed, I'll be in a cast for a while.

I did get the game BTW, Single player is fun but I haven't tried MP yet.

HammaTime
Good luck with the ankle. That doesn't sound like fun.

I wish I had time to be gaming. I've been tied up with a big project and personal matters. Hope to be back gaming in a couple of weeks and I'll look to join the rest of you somewhere somehow.

I'm ignoring my responsiblities and hiding from my personal matters by playing more. I haven't gamed this much in nearly a year, I think.
Bargod
Is there a demo for pc for this. I'm having a hard time finding one.
HammaTime
Ha!! Wish I could hide from my personal matters. But, it has been pretty hard to avoid the divorce attorney and the funeral director. sigh.

As I understand it, they removed the demo when they released the final version. I had downloaded and played the beta versions (they only had the multiplayer working with the demo) before the final was released.

If you've got time to game, I'd strongly recommend you download this game, Chris. It is worth every penny for the single player experience alone, and I can only guess how we'll feel about the multiplayer when a bunch of us can play together.

The MP allows you to form squads, these squads all respawn near the squad leader, so a group of friends can play together as a cohesive unit without having to wait for a respawner to hoof it all the way back to the squad. That is a terrific addition to any MP game. Remember how pissed people got playing some of the custom UO maps when you'd respawn and then have to spend 20 minutes trying to thumb a ride to the frontlines. That doesn't happen if you are a member of a squad.

If you aren't a member of a squad, you can pick your spawn points, but you are restricted to picking points that haven't been captured by the enemy (you can't spawn behind an enemy line, for instance), but you can certainly opt to respawn at a site that is under attack, spawn raping be damned ... your choice.

The rearmost spawn points on most maps is where you will find the heavy armored tanks and fun toys like helicopters and jets. Those are also the fun points to try to get to as a lone, spawn raper, as most spawners coming alive there have one thing in mind and that is to climb aboard a heli, jet or tank. They make for easy sniping as they run oblivious to enemy presence.

One aspect of the game that I haven't liked is the concept that the futuristic HUD enables you to see enemy from the satellite's perspective. This makes it pretty hard to sneak around anywhere, unless you can find suitable cover from the all-seeing eye in the sky.

Gee, writing this is making me want to fire up the game, and I can't cause I have too much work tonight. Boooo hooo!

Get the game, you won't regret it!

Even with my cockney/English translator, I'm not sure I want to know what that means, mate!

A big thanks to the man for getting our sigs rewired. Remind me not to roll over Cross's signature when I'm looking through the forums late at night. That sudden gunshot can be a real shocker.

Thanks, Druid/Robert!

There is a new patch out for FrontLines. It has been so long since I fired it up, I didn't know about it. If you haven't installed it, be sure to get it - v1.0.2

They've added Punkbuster support and made a lot of changes involving player movement. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements.
