On G4 TV's XPLAY "Best of 2007" show, COD4 took the award for Best FPS and also Best Sound Design.

Some other winners were:

Portal - Most Original
Supreme Commander - Best RTS
Super Mario Galaxy - Best Action/Adventure
Mass Effect - Best RPG
Ratched & Clank Future Tools of Destruction - Best Animation
GlaDOS (from Portal) - Best New Character
Bio Shock - Best writing/story
Rock Band - Best Multiplayer
Bio Shock - Best Game of 2007

The games were judged equally across all platforms and the pc. BTW, the show was pretty good overall, so it'd be worth catching if they repeat it.

How does COD4 win Best FPS and Bioshock win Best game when Bioshock is a FPS????

Still, clearly these 2 games are the tops of 2007 on many lists. I saw a list that rated COD4 #1, and Bioshock #2.

Bioshock was weird... but still good I guess. Wonder where Medal Of Honor Airborne falls on their list. Biggest flop of the year I'm guessing.

I am hoping I get Bioshock in the next day or so, but from what I understand, Bioshock is a bit different than a pure shooter. I think that the emphasis for COD4 is the on-line FPS environment while Bioshock is more of a single player immersion game with "FPS" elements.

Then again I am talking out my ass as I haven't played Bioshock yet.

Well, I guess when I'm playing from a first person perspetive, and I have lots of weapons and I use the to shoot people, then I figured First Person Shooter would have been an apt description! smile.gif

Still, you're right in a sense Angus in that I guess the thinking is COD4 is pure "classic" shooter without a whole lot of emphasis on plot and story and mostly on just shooting things, whereas Bioshock is a FPS with an original storyline, unique environment/setting, and some moral choices. I guess they must be thinking that for the straight action, they give COD4 the nod, for the "overall" effect that makes a great game, Bioshock gets the nod.
