My opinion of course but the whole ballgame revolves around strangling the Iranian top dogs - Clerics;

Iraq was vulnerable and alone with no backers and the neocons decided the time was ripe to make its move to oust Sadam and drive a physical wedge between Iran and their terrorist stooges in Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine.... Ironically, wheras the Sadam regime served as a physical buffer between Iran and its support for the goons on the western fringes in the mid-east, the invaded Iraq seems to now be a highway faciliating access in communications and material between the two 'flanks' of this alliance.

Iran, the one true powerful threat to US 'interests' security in terms of mid-East stabilization.
Iran is on a massive scale sticking its agents all over the mid-East where it can .... including Iraq-with all the Shiite factions involved in the political play currently, as well as militias.

Read this; it seems inconsequential to most citizens in the West, but I'll wager its the start of something ominous;

Time to dispel the myths about the invasion performed to stop WMDs, stopping genocides, creating democracy..... only the soldiers fighting there have it in their hearts that they're fighting for Iraqis to have a free lifestyle. In spite of Bush admins trumpeting 'support the troops' these schemers have another agenda as their primary goal..... if they really support the troops they'd have watchdogs seeing that the troops have the best in rehabilitation for returning battle-stressed soldiers and that their bases are in near immaculate conditions -but no, they'll give 2 billion from part of their Iraqi budget to Iraqi security forces [300,000+ strong] that still have little inclination to take over their own destiny on the frontlines -after 4 years.......

hehehe, well I have to say after all these years trying to pick this issue apart I never did get on the 'we're there for oil' bandwagon, nor in the 'to steal it' camp.....
