Hey guys hopefully you can help me with this. I installed missionary two days ago and so far I have loved it except for this lag that seems to happen about every min for 5 secs. Its just hard to play when that happens. I looked through the forum and didn't see anything about this. I remeber when I first started missionary it said something about this and I don't remember what that was and now I can't find it. So anyway hopefully someone knows what to do. Thanks.
You should only get some lag around every 15 minutes or so when CI is scanning, and this should only last for a few seconds.
It may be just me, but the more I have used Missionary the more then game seems to smooth out for me...nothing scientific to it, it may just be me, but give it some to time, and take a look at some of Druid's suggestions below.
Quote from Druid:
I've had several people tell me missionary caused their ping to rise or cause serious lag. I don't know what to tell people because I don't experience any problems and my computer isn't that great.
1.8ghz with a ti4200 video card
What I do know is 3 of the people who complained sent me the tlog from missionary and all 3 had a ton of unneeded crap running in the background.
One of which was an anti-virus program after the person told me he didn't have a antivirus program installed.
Another guy had the longest list of background crap I've seen so far.
Although I hate to pick on Bubba who started this thread but I think it's worth mentioning. Bubba's list of complaints included his ping was higher now because of missionary. I have a hard time understanding how missionary caused his ping to rise when he doesn't even use the program.
I would highly suggest people take a good look at what is running in the background while they play. Open up task manager, look adnd see how much stuff you have running. I'm sure a lot of you will be clueless about many of the names you see. You can look here to see what each program is for.

Same here. Its seems to adapt to it the more I run it. Maybe its just me getting use to it who knows.

Yeah im not sure what is causing it eaither, when I play the game regularly withought missionary it runs fine, so thats the only reason why I thought it was missionary. I always shut any programs down before playing and I already changed the stuff in norton. The connection here at school is remarkably fast like 14MBps so its not that and yes I do play on a laptop but it is basically new and runs fine with the game so im not sure what it is all I know is that it is annoying. Thanks guys.

I also noticed that it is running a lot more smoothly now that i use it all of the time.
Hi guys,
Yeah, I also notice that my ping is higher these days, whether I run Missionary or not. But it's weird, Missionary says my ping to the server is 48 ms but I've never seen it that low during the game - it used to be around 55 ms to 60 ms but now it's hardly ever less than 110 ms and usually higher. And, if I just use MTR or someother program to check the ping, it also reports no problem with little jitter.
As for all these background tasks "running" - mostly, my background tasks are the dock tasks that sit on the lower right. They are normally inactive except when they are invoked. That is, they don't use up CPU cycles - they just reserve some space in virtual memory.
But when Missionary runs - wow! Missionary starts, then runs two helper tasks: mistool and smms. When these 3 are running on my laptop (IBM A31p) they suck up over 50% of the CPU cycles (!). This leaves less for mohaamm.exe; I'm seeing around 40% or so for the game itself. And the amount of CPU Missoinary takes bounces around - sometimes more, sometimes a (little) less.
I think that's why pings get worse with borderline h/w (a 2 GHz mobile pentium is about a 1 GHz Athlon desktop, about, because of less cache and slower memory).
So, as usual, to play a good game, looks like one needs pretty good h/w and as usual a decent vid card.
Thanks -FDR

I haven't noticed that my ping goes up I usually run with 14ms. With missionary its the same but I did notice yesterday that when missionary was running that the cpu usuage is up to like 100%, I wasn't playing I was checking the forum and saw this so anyway I am still trying to make it work right.
