I think the concept of Missionary is great but if you’re going to run it then mandate it and run it all the time. The way it is currently you are penalizing the honest players who run it and giving the hackers a bigger advantage then what the already had. What I mean by penalizing the honest players is this, when you run Missionary (at least this is my experience) you add a tremendous amount of lag and your frame rates go down the toilet. It plays like you were connected via a dialup modem instead of having a kick ass cable connection.

The bottom line is this, why would one want to degrade his game play so the cheaters keep on cheating and honest people like myself suffer by running Missionary.

The only way to making it an even playing field is to mandate Missionary all the time so everyone will have the same game play (lag) and no one will have the advantage.

I don't mind running Missionary but I would like equal game play.

Actually Widow your thoughts are exactly mine, and one of the reasons I don't run Missionary anymore. There were too many technical problems to deal with for me, including lag, bad fps, and an already shitty comp. I may not run it but I do not cheat, and if there was ever any suspicion I would gladly comply with MOB. If MOB ever makes it mandatory full time then I will try again, but I am content to play elsewhere on missionary only nights. Of course, when you make it mandatory you had better make sure there is enough support or paying for the servers will not be justified. Jus my 2c, Blak.

You'll never see me say missionary doesn't have issues. I think most people who use it have wanted to put their fist through their monitor atleast once ( I know I have ). Missionary is a work in progress, without people using it now, improvements would be much slower or never happen at all.
Any current missionary problems are far out-weighted by the cheat free gaming it provides. I'm sure some people disagree with me and thats fine, everyone is welcome to their opinion.
Missionary isn't mandatory most of the time but like the server message says, without it expect people to assume you cheat. As we move forward with missionary it will be mandatory more often. At some point, people will either decide to support it or find another server. I'm sure we will probably lose a few good players who do think it's is to much of a hassle. For those players all I can say is when you do find a new server and someone is blatantly hacking, just remember you made the choice to play were cheating is allowed.

If we just switch to missionary as you suggest it will kill the server.
Missionary will only be successful as more people use it.
Think of it as a domino effect. When non-missionary user's see more people using it, hopefully it will make them give it a try.
When a regulars like you makes the choice not to use missionary, it only makes it that much harder to run the server as Missionary only.

Right now we don't have enough regulars supporting it. So we are left with a couple of choices on how to gently force more people to use it. All of these choices are to make sure there are empty spots on the server for those who are willing to support cheat free play.
1) Randomly kicking non-missionary users several times a day.
2) Switching the server to Missionary only without warning, there by kicking anyone who doesn't use it. BTW after you get kicked 5 times, you're automatically banned and will be unable to play until someone manually removes your ban. Most likely this means you'll be banned for the day.
3) Randomly forwarding non-missionary players to Wiseguys.
4) This is a funny one but it would a great way to get the point across. Randomly forwarding non-missionary players to one of the servers that open support cheating.

We will deciding what option we will use in the next few days.
Once we decided we will give everyone fair warning.

For those who want to claim problems with missionary as a reason not to use it.
I can only guess you missed to 100 messages a day in the server asking you to post if you had problems so we could try and help you.

Druid, believe I completely agree with you and am above all most sorry for the fact I am hurting the movement to get Missionary really going. That is one reason I have tried so hard to get it to work, and I have come to you guys for help several times but for me the cons just outweigh the pros at this moment.

Ok, if that is how you want to go about this, it is your decision and I respect that because I am just a guest and don't make the rules. I was just expressing an opinion but now I will use Missionary when playing on MOB servers if I can get it to work (for the simple reason that they are so good, although I am skeptical as how successful I can be) and if not then I will just find somewhere else to play. Thank you real for making it that easy.

We need to push Missionary.. if our regulars stop using it, it will never catch on. That's all.

Blakjak, I haven't had any problems with Missioanry updates in some time now. I think most of the main bugs have been worked out.

Panzer I just played with it not 10 minutes ago but I still had problems. The problems were almost entirely on my end, save some pretty high lag spikes. I still have problems with freezing but this is an issue I have neever been able to resovle. I have conflicts with my vid card and some other issues.

Druid/Panzer I fully understand what you are trying to accomplish and I would like nothing more then to have a cheat free environment to play MOHAA in.

Druid, what your have proposed to get folks to start using Missionary sounds good and I especially like porting non users to a non Missionary server.

I also promise to support Missionary and run it every time I’m on in the future and promise to keep my trap shut concerning my negative thoughts about Missionary while playing.

Again I'll keep my negative Missionary statements to myself while online and I didn't mean to piss you off Panzer but I tend to speak my peace without thinking sometimes and as you can see it tends to get my ass in a bind sometimes. Sorry, I'll try not to let it happen in the future.

One more thought while I still have my foot in my mouth, would it be possible to get rid of they console statements calling people cheaters for not running Missionary. I don’t know if anyone else feels this way but I really find them annoying during game play and I doubt they are having the desired effect of making people run Missionary.

What kind of system do you have? I have lag when I play but its bearable. When I first start playing its laggy. It seems to fade after about 5-7 minutes into the game. After I am verified it seems to be smooth.

My framerate drops drastically when I run missionary and I do, on occasion, want to put my fist through my monitor. However, for me, the end goal far outweighs the discomforts of the moment. Missionary, as Druid put it so well, is indeed a work in progress and in time, it will be perfected. But not without our support. So I, personally, will continue to endure with that end goal in sight. The elimination of the greater frustration of cheating players wreaking havoc on our gameplay is in sight at last and made possible by Missionary. I urge you to support Missionary with me and all others who continue to use it.

Almost 86% of the people who voted are in favor of using Missionary not to mention MOB was sick of all the chicken shit cheaters. I have been frustrated with the lag issue at times, but knowing the server is cheater free is well worth it.

For the people complaining about the lag being so bad, here are a few tips

Window Services
The default install of 2000 or XP has 40+ services running, most are useless and only take up unneeded memory and cpu time.
I disable the junk and now only have 18 window services running in the background compared to the original 42.

Half of the software people install will add programs running in the background.
The process tab on task manager will show you all the process running in the background. If you have problems identify any particular process you can do a search here

Missionary Priority set to realtime
Someone reported this helped them, I've no idea if it will or not.
If you wat to try here is how

Start Missionary
Open task manager by right clicking on the task bar or Control-Alt-Delete
Pick the process tab
Right click on missionary.exe
Choose Set Priority>>> Realtime

Shut down unneeded process inside of missionary
Before you join the server, go to
Tools/Help>>>Tools>>>Shut Down Processes
Double click any listed processes you don't need running.
You can close anything you want without a lot of worry.
Everything will be back to normal after you restart your computer.

If anyone follows the tips listed above and still finds the lag from missionary to be so bad it stops them from use it.
The next step would be to install VNC and allow me to remotely connect to your computer and check your setup for problems. I will happily take the time to help solve your problems one by one.

One more thing Druid, this is something I was thinking about that might get people to run Missionary. I don't know if this is possible or not but on days like today when the server is always full. Can you fix it so people who are logging in with Missionary have preference over those who are logged on and not using Missionary and are booted off by someone logging in using Missionary? Just a thought, I know people would probably run it just for that feature alone when the server is full.

Yes, good tips druid, thanks. My main problem is the shitty ass computer I run the game on, but I do experience some lag problems. Believe me, with my problematic computer and slow processor I shut down everything I possibly can before running the game.

I have tried the shutdown processes a few times but only once in awhile does a list come up and the list I have saved in the past isn't there either? Both boxes come up empty sometimes?
I just set Missionary to realtime in my processes and I know my lag pretty good I'll let you know what happens keep up the good work Druid we are with you!

Heres my thought MISSIONARY ROCKS.

I think most problems of missionary are solved by Druids explanations (programs running in background, etc) I still find any lag due to someone with a higher ping dragging me down, rather than missionary. I'm not going to say anything about a program that eliminates cheaters, because there is nothing worse than going into a game and finding 1/2 way through the map some meathead has been wallhacking, etc, and the game I just went thru was a waste of time.

Down the road with updates the program will just work better as with most updates in programs, and since Missionary is relatively new, we should acept it for what it is, and look forward to its improvements over time. It certainly does not ruin the game, if we are all running it, but a cheater will ruin a game. I found that out when there is no protection in the server.

One word of advice, if you have to vid_restart or if you crash, wait till the error message appears, if your vid_restart did not work for you, because I have a bad habbit of shutting down the computer prior to the message, and it royally messed up my missionary. I had to reinstall it all. If we read the posts he put up carefully then we can get this missionary program running nice.

Bottom line, do you prefer the hassels of goofballs coming in and ruining the games, or are you willing to read into this missionary individually and personally know how to get it running on your system for maximum results?

Lets keep the cheaters out of here, I am personally sick of seeing them try to ruin the games we enjoy.
