this isn't related to the mob server at all, but since you're very knowledgeable about this kinda stuff I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I was playing on the FoF server (i think they run CI serverside but no miss.) and 2 obvious hackers came in and were crashing the server etc.

The admin tried to kick/ban but it didn't work! They were still on the server and crashing it at will.

Is there any way to get rid of them cos they're spoiling what was a good game?

It depend on how the guy was trying to kick them.
Some of the function in CI send a command to the client computer telling the computer to disconnect from the game, this can easily be bypassed.
The other way send a command to the server telling the server to drop the connection for that player, this way can't be bypassed.

The banning in MOHAA doesn't mean a lot because it only works by the players IP.
With DSL rebooting your modem will get you a new IP. With cable their is a little more to it depending on who your provider is and how long they lease IP's

we got rid of them finally. Banned from serverside. The reason we couldn't boot them had something to do with them being too quick for CI to keep up with or something...not sure of details.

For the record, just in case they come on the mob server, they had the tag [id] then their name, then [d] after the name.

It could also be they were using a nasty program (which I will not name in a public forum) which basically will not let rcon/CI commands work on the offending player. What it will eventually do is overrun your console and crash your server.

The way we deal with this hack is by using in-game commands. We have scripts to take the hacker's weapons away, and then "space" him (which puts him hundreds and hundreds of polygons above the map - essentially in grey area). We do this until we can manually type in a command (which works against the settings in this particular hack program) to get him off the server, then add his IP to the ban list. In some cases we will ban the entire string if there are few or no other players in that string.
