The good stuff costs more than that! I use the ATI 9800XT; it set me back $540. I'm happy with it. My brother, Ramos, has the very latest from ATI, and it really seems to make a difference. I'm upgrading my motherboard and switching to a Pentium 4, 3.4. That combination should make a difference.

ATI 9600 is what you need. Uses less power from your supply and less system resources, plus nvidia has been known to overheat quite easily. wink.gif

SQ makes a good point. I had to upgrade my power to 500W.

I've heard that some ATI cards have issues with AMD.

Just something to keep in mind....don't know what processor you have/prefer.

Also you may look at some off brand vid cards that use the same chipset as the name brand cards. Could save some bucks but make sure you read a couple of reviews. For Ex: I have an nVidia chipset that I know is made on an MSI card as well as Albatron....Albatron being cheaper.

lmao, i hit the null note button on accident too. Ati cards are the best graphics card that you can buy. They are very well priced for their performance too.

What the hell is the difference between the cards? I just play with the stock on my "Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics" on my HP504n... blink.gif

quality and performance are the difference

Could you please elaborte squirrel (or anyone).

Thats a textbook answer...I know that.....but give some examples. What would someone notice different during gameplay?

I am curious as to how it improves it. I just play with a 64 meg card...wondering if its worth an upgrade.
Squirrel_Lover
Depens on what you want to play. If it is just MOHAA, then no, but if you get the new high end games lke doom3 then yes.
GanGsta_XtyleZ
I got a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro... Works about right for me... i recomended

That still doesn't answer my question squirrel.

Examples? Anyone?

yeah gangsta I heard good things about that card too.

ATI's have been known and proven to take more of a pwoer load without overheating ang damaging itself or crahisng your computer, but then again Nvidia has a lot of technology that they hope will be used someday. The thing with that is , sometimes it is never used and you just paid for technology that does no good. Nvidia also scores higher FPS in games, but when you run multiple programs and a game (such as mohaa, missionary, ventrilo at the same time) ATI scores higher. Nvidia also has reported problems of frame skipping after more than four hour of continuous game use. In my opinion, for a video card you want to run games smoothly and not use too many system resources (such as power supply ATI-250w, Nvidia-330w)then you go with ATI. If you want ultra performance and "future" technology you get a nvidia

For $100-200 rang i reconmend ATI 9700pro or 9800pro. Both card will get you around 80-100 fps. If you wanna spend alittle bit more then get a x800 Pro around $399 or you can go to a sperm bank and get a real card ATI x800xt PE For around 50 trip to the Sperm bank or $599. Add that to a MSI neo2 platnium motherboard and AMD 64 Bit FX53 and a GIG and a half of RAM. You won't need to upgrade for atleast 3yrs. Trust Me!!! That my set-up but it's aint here yet waiting on CPU. What ever you do go ATI Trust me.

I have been using Nvidia's cards since my first comp and I have never had any issues with them(excluding GAME specific SUPPORT). And this myth about them over heating is false. My first video card was some GeForce 2 model and that card was outstanding. Followed by GeForce 3 which was also very good. After that I purchased the GeForce 4 Ti4200 with 8xAGP for which I paid about $270. This was excellent video card. I've been using this video card all the way till about 6 months ago. You will be able to play MOHAA with all the settings MAXED out with out any problems. Unless you are going to play with 1600x1200 resolution. But still you will be able to play with all the highs settings on. Also if you decide to play Doom 3 you will be able to on medium settings. If you have enough RAM you will be able to run it on HIGH. After this video card I bought the Ti4600 hoping to get some better results. I was very shocked to find out that the 4600's performance was almost identical to that off the 4200. There were a few benefits such as support for the 2.0 Shaders and such. Then the ATi's 9800 PRO came out. I did some research on it and I decided to buy it right away. Bought it, took it home, put it in the comp, start it up, and fuck nothing was happening. After quite a bit of problems I it started running. Now don't get me wrong this is great video card or atleast for $400 it was. It was good but not good enough. 6800 came and ATI's X series. but all these card were like $500+ dollars. Now recently Nvidia came out with the 6600 GT which kicked the shit out of the 9800 PRO and was only $199. So last weekend I went out and dished $250 for the video card because those motherfucking retailers wont sell it for less then $230 because "its so new." Anyway I took it home, put it in, fired up MOHAA. Fucking great. Check out COD and COD:UO both with oustanding results. Then I started up FarCry. This was a shocker, the 6600 GT was able to run it about 15-20fps faster then the 9800PRO which was pretty fucking impressive not to mention that I could also run the 3.0 shader with the new card. Next was MOHPA, now this is were I ran into some issues. All the textures on the sreen were blurred and webed. After wasting 6 hours trying to get some answers from the video card manufacturer and I was still nowhere. And then I finally figured out what the problem was, PA doesn't support this video card. Now that's just fucking lame. But luckily EA did help me by providing my with some AGP SiS drivers that made the game run but still didn't resolve much of the isssues. So after this little experience I started up Half Life 2. I also had some issues with this but not as bad as with PA. (Check out the OffTopic section, DISPLAY ISSUES)

As to say which is better you need to narrow it down to a specific game. Personaly I say for $100 you definetly can't go wrong with the Ti4200.

Speaking of FPS...i've seen some screenshots of people who have a monitor at the bottom of there screen telling them their fps.....how do I get that.

Also, is it legite to use a mod to change the colors of your crosshairs (to say red insted of white)? If it is cool to use, where can I find something like that?

Sorry if I'm getting off topic.

PS...I too agree with the scarface on the claims of nVidia overheating....spoke to a friend who is a computer hardware consultant....its not true.
Boog
XYZ, bring down console and type fps 1 or fps_1 i forgot which and that should bring up your FPS count, I did it so long ago I think thats it.
Boog
Scarface, the Ti4200 would run MOHAA like a champ? Thats really the only game I want to run, but I want it to be very good. I will also play need for speed underground 2, but I dont care if the graphics arent OUTSTANDING. I just wanna run mohaa near 100 fps and great graphics.

So let me get this straight. You were on a full server with little lag and you averaged about 36 fps? But it ran as high as 82 and as low as 7? Now where does all this informations fit into? Well I would definetly say you need to looking into upgrading your comp smilieseesaw.gif

Ill gel myself a nice little nVidia GeForce 6800..
D-DayVetLarry
I just have a little Geforce4 MX 440. Came standard with the comp, but it looks nice for MOHAA. Very cheap though and wouldnt recommend it for any other game.
