Microsoft has just implemented a program called Genuine Advantage that is used to check for pirated copies of Windows during Automatic Updates. If you've encountered this problem, and aren't able to run automatic updates, here are the instructions on how to get around it.

to be honest, i fucking hate my copy of windows, its legit but its professional, do you know if i can just pop in the home edition cd and install?

Just keep Professional, it's better then Home.

Thanks Behemoth. I got a corporate edition copy I ain't used yet. Would this be considered as those that won't update?

Not sure. I've probably got the same corporate edition as you, but I haven't tried the updates since that put that new system in.

I do the same, but you still need to download the most recent security updates. Do you do that?

ya i do sometimes but it seems every time i do some kind of undates my computer messes up

Just don't install Service Pack 2. That's what usually causes most people to have problems. You should really also check pretty often for new security updates. It doesn't take long for someone to write a worm/virus/trojan for any vulnerabilities found in Windows.

every night i do a disk clean up,defragment and a virus scan....i love my comp! wub.gif

Boy, I really miss running windows ME! Nobody bothered writing virus' and what not for that big, fat, stinking pile of crap windows called an operating system...
