I don't know what the deal is but the lag is just terrible you can't play with a rifle well at all. Its really hurting the server and a lot of good players have left, can u help because I love the server?

Which server?
Flashgirl
I have the same problem RD- I ping in the 50's but I get in the server and if it is full.............. my ping jumps up to the 100's.....

Usually one of my biggest problems if there is a lot of people in there with a ping over a hundred.......

So I come in and once the server fills up I have to leave.......... <pout>

Silver says cassino too-that its speratic but it happens often during the game.

Me Too. Ping is around 40 - 50 and sometimes have some crazy lag.

Crazy lag once in a while will happen on any server. If it's something thats happening on a consistent basis, then we may have a problem.

I have to be honest, when I play on the Barb server I rarely experience any kind of lag.

We need to make sure the lag you are experiencing is client side (on your end) or server side (on our end). You can use the lagometer to determine this.
Here's what I need you guys to do:

What is the Lag-O-Meter?
Sometimes people get a lot of lag on their computers and don't know if it's their machine or internet connection. Well here's a little setting that's not well known called the lagometer. Basically you type in the command and it will show if you are having any connection problems with the server.

Hit the ~ key to bring down the console. It's to the left of the 1 key far left side of your keyboard.

Type in /cg_lagometer 1 to turn the lagometer on. To turn it off /cg_lagometer 0 After activating the meter you'll see a graph above your ammo display.

The blue top display is your upload connection to the server and the bottom green is the server's upload connection to you. Under optimum conditions you connection should display solid blue while the server's display should display a solid green.

If you start to show yellow spikes or bars in either display it means there are minor to moderate connection problems on the display owners end.

If it displays red spikes or bars you are having major connection problems on the display owners end.

By display owner I mean if the top display has spikes or bars it's your end, if they are on the bottom display it's on the server's end. If they're on both displays I would assume there is a problem with the connection between you and the server.

When you get a chance, take a screenshot while the lagometer is running and post it here so we can all take a look at it.

You also may want to take a look HERE too.

Ok,

I think it is something else. ever since the servers got all daffy not to long ago the connection has been very bad. and on the lagometer it shows that the connection would be with us.... reason I say us is when i was playing with red and gene and a few others we all were experienceing the same issueswith connection. all of us had the same trouble and same spikes uploadinbg to the server... which makes me think its the sever... here are some screens I took not to long ago, (I just re-installed so I lost all the recient ones)

now very reciently regardless of ping it gets in the high yellow, now if I switch to CSA I get normal lag like the one in the bottom SS

now why would I not lag out on CSA if its my connection?
me, Red and gene all live in diffrent parts of the country...
I also talk on TS to the guys from CIS and when they play on here we all get Lag at the same time along with other people from our barb server... you have said a few times that you get a good connection with the server... I switched my connection to Verision DSL and I get alot better connection then I did with cable...

my big point is if it was just my connection why would others get the same result, and why would this not effect my on other servers?

<this is a constructive post, please dont take it the wrong way>

*Edit* as a matter of fact before the server crashes from the numsnapshot entries (?) the top part of the lagometer tops out (yellow and it goes down <everyone get booted> I run the lag meter and fps rate all the time, to ensure I know when to hide and when to run... keeps me safe wink.gif

Ok, first thing. The occasional server crashes on Barbarossa have nothing to do with the server. It's a problem with the map. The map designers are aware of the problem but there's nothing they can do to fix it because Activision/IW wouldn't reply to their emails so it is what it is.

As for the lag, The screens above seem to indicate that the lag is on your end, am I reading the graphs correctly?

How often do you get the lag? Every 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 minutes? How long does the lag last for?
Does the "CONNECTION INTERRUPTED" display?

The reason you might get lag on one server and not the other could be the result of a problem on one of the "hops" from your computer to the server and may not actually be the server but a hop in between.

If you really want to find out, download the free version of a program called Ping Plotter (http://www.pingplotter.com/) This program will track your connection from your computer to the server. You'll be able to see the number of hops inbetween you and the different servers and if one of those hops has an issues, you will usually see major packet loss at those particular hops.

Im going to do the ping hop thing and its recient (since the servers went down. I dont get a connection interupt just lag, and i dont get kicked for packet loss. but it happens to diffrent people at the same time... which is weird... I have been a user of your server for a long time, and when you switched it was better, but since the issue that you fixed in the last week or two it got bad. thoose screens were taken when Me redeemer and gene were on vent and we all got the same connection problem. I know It shows its on my end but could the server be having problems reciving? could there be a cable loose on the server? I will do the ping thing but I still wonder why it happens to people more then me at the same time and the same spikes all the same. I know the problem with the map, and I know the issues that are wrong with ah maps... but when the server reboots why does the top connection go yellow when it does? lack of connection? I dont knwo, but i also dont what to cause problems with you so I wil reply with what the ping thing says and be done with it... I dont wnat anyone to think im bitching or to cause a problem... not my intentions. sad.gif

First of all, no one thinks your bitching. Actually, you're being extremely helpful in trying to determine the root cause of the lag issue.
When the Barb map crashes as discussed above, I would disregard anything that the lagometer reports at the time of the crash. It is strictly map related and has nothing to do with the server.

So the lag you are describing is a constant lag? For the entire map?

BTW - the people getting kicked from the server for lost packets are not being kicked. Alot of times when you leave the game, for some reason it still thinks that you're connected and will eventually kick that client with the lost packet message.

I have attached a copy of what my Ping Plotter results were for me. You'll notice minor packet loss at the beginning of the route (right outside my hous) and then some minor packet loss at the last hop before the server. Neither of these PL's are major and I doubt they're contributing to the lag issues.

ok.... you non-mac lover... i had to DL a 15 day trial of this trace route program.. (kinda neat) this is the results:

Multiple players are experiencing the lag issue. I turn all other programs off including my antivirus before playing. I ahve also never seen lag like this before, its weird shit like being killed 5 steps after you have been hit. I don't think its on the client side. kurt
