Since nothing but gamers are on this forum I was trying to get a feel of what kind of graphics card people were running. I run a Geforce4 MX 440 PCI. I am looking for a AGP card to take its place like a ATI or an nvidia based card. What is the best bang for the buck?

Thx

Zillah

I know that people are going to have a ton of different opinions on this but here's mine...In my eyes the best you get for a cheap price is the GF3 TI500...thats what I use and have never, ever had any trouble at all with it. It may be a little on the old side but I think it still can hold its own weight

I'm sure you know but check here for some really good prices

Epacy
I've been running the GF4 TI4600 since April and I am most pleased. Not problems with Nvidia.
realdeal
I have the ATI Radeon 9700 pro... no problems here.
dionysos
I have a cheap Ge-Force 4MX 420 but no problems!!! and a graphic accelerator program!

What is the difference between MX and TI ???
Johnzillah
I think its the megatexels/ gigatexles per second. The transfer rate is huge on the Nvidia based Ti 4200 and the Ti4600. The megatexels per second are 1 billion for the Mx and the Ti is around 5. Also the if you look at the polygons per second. The Mx has 31 million vs the Ti which has 136 million per second. The ATi Radeon 9700 card Real is running is probably the best one out right now it runs 2.2 gigatexels per second and 275 million polygons per second. Thats is serious gaming. The only card that I know of that has more gigatexles per sec is the one Cobra runs which is the ATi Radeon 8500 128 mg which runs at 2.6 gigtexles per sec. Its alot cheaper than the 9700 and probably from what I have found to be the best bang for the buck. You can get it on Ebay for around $100. Nvidia new card is supposed to retake the crown from ATi with the new Geforce FX card which is set to take on the Ati 9700 http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/200301...0127/index.html

Any how

thx

You fire out this whole paragraph, yet in your first post you act like you know nothing of the market. I knew your post was an imposter.
Johnzillah
Imposter! That hurts Epacy............Wheres the love..........hehe laugh.gif

Ive been doing my homework on these things the past few days. Im just trying to get something to keep up with you {MOB} guys. Especially you, I cant move on a map and get two steps before I do a concrete dive. tongue.gif

Thx for the info

I use the same card as Johnzillah, but i still kick his tail. Any time you see Johnzillah face down in any map, taking a dirt nap, it means I have just used him again like a truckstop whore. I need to upgrade my graphics card and dsl, then i will haf to look for new excuses for getting whacked by the {MOB}girls.
Johnzillah
Beer, is it that time of the month again. You really need to go and get a hysterectomy like you told me you were gonna do........ tongue.gif

Here is a card ranking page that seem to be alot of help. http://users.erols.com/chare/video.htm

I got the Gf4 mx440 AGP...considering I went up from a Radeon 32 meg card im pleased. My FPS are still a bit laggy in snow and other known lag maps..20-30's. When theres a lot of ppl going around firing in the same room it gets choppy still. So im looking to go up as well. Thanks for the info in this thread. It will help me in my decision as well biggrin.gif

Just installed the Radeon 9700 Pro and admit it kicks ass over my GeForce.

The price on all 9700 Pro's just dropped to $299 at CC and best buy since the 9800 is coming out.

Very easy to install and benchmarked at 4403 with no mods.
SOKHAR_[H]
what is your system specs because that score is way low for that card
All over but the Crying
i am assuming you are using 3dmark as your benchmark test ?

what settings are you benchmarking at ?
Sigma-Chi
The settings are all stock, I haven't tweaked anything yet.

Just tryin to figure out how in the heck the software works.

My system is:

250mhz power supply
P4 2.0
1gb DDR PC2100
120gb 7200 Western Digital Hard Drive
ATI 9700 pro----just installed

ANy help would be great!
SOKHAR_[H]
is that score with 3dmark2k2 or 2k3
Sigma-Chi
The demo I just downloaded from the futuremark website.....asuming 03?

This is the first time I have ever upgraded a Graphics card and just took out a GeForce2 for the 9700 pro.

What settings and res should I have it on?

Right now I have been running it the next greater than 1024x768 or whatever the setting two steps above 800x600.

Would love your help on getting it dialed in!

Also, I am going to go buy the MX 700! No lag from it being wireless?
SOKHAR_[H]
I have 3d mark2k3 on my machine but not instaled I will try it and see what my score comes up as maybe its got better graphics so it lowers the score try to find 2k1 and try that I am more familiar with the proper scores for your card in 2k1

MX 700 is the best mouse I have ever used and I have used a lot (about 15 diff types) I was a digital ink and painter for 2 years at animation company in Ottawa and in that job accuracy is key and when I say accurate I mean it like down to the last pixel and I loved this mouse so much I bought one for work as well its simply the best mouse out there I owned the previous generation of this mouse and logitech did a damm good job fixing the prob with the mouse kinda jumping a bit when you came to a full stop and started again it would jump a few mm in the MX line that is gone I think you should go out and buy it you will love it I promise

just try not too kill me too much with it LOL

********edit********* I just ran 3dmark2k3 and got a score of somthing like 1460 its somthing with that program I am going to redownload 2k1 and see what I get

downlaod 2k1 here 3dmark2k1
SOKHAR_[H]
I was unraring some movie files and downloading more movie stuff and playing mp3 but my score in 2k1 was 10398 on GF4 ti 4400 and just for a laugh I decided to run it on my second display on a riva tnt 2 32mb no pixel shader tests would run but the ones that did gave me a score of 704 LOL man and I still know 2 ppl that run this card a there main graphics card the only reason I have that POS in my box is for my dual displays a 21" main and 19" secondary and tv out on the GF4 to my 46" HDTV biggrin.gif now you know why I am downloading so many movie's
Sigma-Chi
21"......jesuz.....that is big!

I asked a friend and he said the newest version of the futuremark software has a very intensive graphics load than on previous versions.........but he also said there are ways to mod the card using some kinda software.

The MX 700 looks like a killer mouse.....never used a wireless b4...thought there might be lag in the response time.
Major_Fragulator
GeForce ti4600 Ultra & ti4200 on my machines.

There are other graphics cards? I didn't know.

I got it cheap biggrin.gif the store who sold it to me did not know what they had LOL the monitor was made for sun microsystems and it had a strange conection on the end and they did not know what to do with it so I offered then 250 canadian (like 125 american) they did not want to do it but I told them I was going to have to soder a svga end on it so they ok it and I went to a local used comp store and went digging through there junk bin (they have every addapter you could ever need) and sure enough there was an addapter it cost me 2 bucks and I got a $900 monitor for $252 canadian

ya your score in 3dmark 2k3 is damm good because you saw my score and your card is not all that much better then mine so getting 4000 to my 1400 is fine but it has me thinking about the GF FX now
Sigma-Chi
I did the research and decided to try ATI after reviews of the FX's performance.

Watch the unveiling video on the Nvidia website and they even mention at the end that they have already moved on and are already developing their next chip.....it is the one when they show Dawn and her sisters.....you'll see.

Listen to what the CEO says about what card is running that presentation.

I would mot get the 700 logitech mouse. I don't think wireless technology is quite there yet and the weight of the thing would probably cause to much wrist fatigue.

If you do get it though, let me know how it works out.

The MX 700 is an excellent mouse, yet I foun d it to be a bit heavy for my liking, so I convinced the MAnager at best buy to give me the MX500 and Raven Shield as an even exchange!
