Anybody have a Radeon 9700??? I'm waitin for the GeForce FX but in the prerelase trials the dam thing sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I'm wondering if it might not be worth it to just go with the Radeon.
Epacy
Necro, mine sounds somewhat similiar.
I have a XP 2600+ 333 FSB, Asus A78NX-Deluxe, Corsair XMS 512 PC2700 RAM, Western Digital 80 GB 8mb cache, GeForce 4 TI4600, DVD-ROM, Sliver Braided Round IDE/Floppy cables, 400W Tri-color LED power supply. All that in a blue Chieftec window tower.
I want nothing else. Maybe a custom painted Falcon Northwest case. That would be nice.

I have the Radeon 9700 Pro... I love it. No problems.

I run a Radeon 8500 128MBDDR, and I have had no problems. It a huge step up from what I was running before. I know a few other guys have just ordered the 8500, and should have it installed soon. Other than that I have an Alienware Area 51. Western Digital 80GB HD. I run 728MB RDRAM. With a 340 Watt power supply. It also has a 2.53 Ghz processor. Its a great machine.

Pretty....I'm going for the gold wound cables next week after Kitty and I get back from a monster LAN party down in Indiana.

Well you have the same MoBo so you have the option to upgrade to the AMD Hammer when it's released. Kitty and I went for the TI4200 cause it was relatively inexpensive and we're waiting on the FX board. I do hope they fix the fan and tunnel cooling system on that thing, it really is unbearably loud. Ah, you went with the blue...that's a nice looking rig.

Why did you go with the Corsair ram?

The place where I get my puters has a case that was painted yellow with blue spots like a cow...very weird, very cool. If it had been for sale I would have bought it. Instead I went with the purple chieftec.

Kitty found a 'Punisher' fan cover but it's a 90mm and we can't find a decent place to put a 90mm fan in her case without going through the plexiglass.

You guys should put up a section for people to upload pics of their rigs. Then this would be geek hog heaven. ;o)

The Hammer will be interesting, VERY expensive though. I don't hear good things about the FX. I hear they did fix the noise problem to a degree from the test cards they distributed. My 4600 will last until the next GeForce comes out in about July.
The Corsair memory has a CAS latency of 2 instead of 2.5. It is a faster RAM module and you can't go wrong with Corsair. The heatsink on it is kinda just for show.
A forum for the pics of everyones PC isn't too bad. Either that or maybe just a thread devoted to it in General Discussion. I would like to see people's rigs.

I have a Dell, also known as a POS(Piece of Shit), 1.7 ghz, with 40 gigs, 512 ram, and a Nvidia 64 card. Since my computer skills are few, and I mainly use mine for gaming and porn(what comps were made for), mine does me ok for now.

I would really like an Alienware 3.0, with 80 gigs, 1024 ram, and the ATI 9800 Pro, but since I'd have to sell 1 of my testicles to afford it, then I'm probably stuck with what I got.

Any of you guys know what is the best and fastest type of ram?
blackcat
I have a:
XP2800+
Volcano 9 cpu fan to keep it cool
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
1024MB XMS 3200LL Ram
A 20 and 40gig hd
ATI 9700 Pro
Lian-Li PC-601 Case
Antec Truepower 550w ps
2 yr old Boomslang 2000dpi mouse

Other then the mouse, got everything from newegg. Been really happy with it.

Peace.

Hey blackcat,
Your computer sounds simliar to mine. I am thinking of getting the Volcano 9 for my XP2600+. How has it fared for you? I know it is quite heavy and kinda loud. Does it do well for you. Also, I saw the Volcano 11 came out, thought about that one as well.
blackcat
Epacy,

Just checked and I am at 40c/104f right now (It's the coolmod version with the 80mm 4800rpm fan). I think if I had to do it all over again,
I'd probably get the Swiftech MCX462+:
http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcx462plus.asp

On the newegg reviews, one person with the Swiftech and a 92mm Panaflo fan is getting 32c idle, 36c maxed with an XP2800+. Pretty respectable.

There's a review from Tomshardware on swiftech and others:
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030113/c...cooler5-24.html

I know a couple of people with the swiftech and they're is really happy with them.

The new Volcano 11 looks REALLY nice. There was one other cpu fan that had all copper fins, but can't remember off hand.

Peace.

all volcano modles BLOW over priced under performing POS I have a volcano 7+ (the best performing of the bunch) with 4 case fans and my idle temp is always 18C above ambient room temp (with the fan on high setting ) and I have only done a mild OC to this thing and to top its shitty perfomance off it is really loud as well (like ear bleeding loud) so I went out and spent another 30 bucks for the nexus fanbus to quite it down so I can sleep I am not kidding I am a heavy sleeper but this thing on high 20feet away was to loud for me to ignore and go to sleep DONT BUY ANY VOLCANO get yourself an ax7 or slk 800 with a good 80mm fan and you will get kick ass temps and it wont kill your ears
All over but the Crying
Im running that same swiftech and it is nice because you can mate whatever fan you want to to it. Anything named Volcano just sounds looud and obnoxious. I would also recomend linning the inside of your case with Dynamat which is a sound deadening material. This decrease your computer sound levels as well. Just make sure that you have adequate airflow running through your case. I thing the best place to buy PC modding and cooling supplies is www.plycon.com. These guys live for this stuff and are gamers just like you and me. Plus, I think they are the largest distrubutor in the country. I think even Alienware buys from them.

I always buy my hardware from newegg.com - product is delivered promptly, great shipping rates and they have excellent customer service.

Plus I like reading the customer reviews about the products that I am looking at.

Now for games, keep your eye out at Costco (if you have one in your area). I was able to get the game for 38 dollars and Spearhead for 16 dollars.

The best part was when The_Warrior pointing me to mobclan.com ;-)
