I've been watching Barb ever since this thread started, and I just don't understand something. Everyday, I see 3-7 players in Barb, trying to get a game going. I don't see one {MOB} tag among them. I look up the names in the stats, not one {MOB} smurf from what I can tell.

So, what is it you are really missing? You can obviously play Barb, there are players in the server wanting to play.

And even if there weren't players in there exactly when you wanted to play, all you'd have to do is camp the server for 10 minutes or so and players would come in.

I dont know about everyone, but usually when I play, I check all our servers. I usually hop into which ever one has more players. I hate waiting for players in an empty server if I could be playing with others in another server. Plus, I do like your new mod. My perfect world would be a 24/7 server of Barb with the new mod in it. Im sure not everyone would agree with what my tastes are, but thats just my opinion.

Ah, so you miss having a group of players there at your convenience. Got it, LOL!

As for running my mods with only Barb, it will not work. That's the first experiment we tried. Sorry.

Testing the theory now. Will camp Barb, prime time. See what happens. Report back soon! smile.gif

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK. 40 minutes later, basically maxed out at 3 players. Me, Thiafighter, and Pain. Most of the time just Pain and me. We played one game before giving up. So yeah, it's hard to get it going.

Like I say, I like the new, and I like the old, but there's no doubt this competes with ourselves. This mod is definately drawing new people, but of course, we are going to lose some of the "old school" types.

If I was to suggest a major tweak to the MW BAS server, it would be to jack up the tanks so they can compete better with the modern hand weapons. Faster turning turrents, increase the speed a little, bump up the armour, shorten the re-fire length, etc. Don't know how easy or possible this is, but it might help the tank lovers appreciate MW more. As it stands now, getting in a tank is not much better than suicide.

People will play wherever MOB guys play, cause we are the shit.

If a bunch of us decide to got to MW BAS, then everything else will be empty.

If we got to Stocks. Everything else will be empty.

If we go to Tuchola, Everything else will be empty.

Lets not dwell on this too much.

MOB friggin rules.

It's a very different style game. Much faster, requires more "skills" and less hard work/dedication.

I beg to differ. There's very little "skill" involved in the MW Barbarossa. Not with those weapons...the Noobanov (the weapon of choice for about 90% of the players) requires little skill from its user. It has a powerful scope, no recoil and it can be switch to fully auto fire. How hard is it to kill someone with that? Not very.

And, as far as hard work goes, there are still some players who understand that this is still Base Assault and not TDM. We MFD guys are constantly trying to blow up the bases; obviously there are some MOB and other regulars doing the same.

However, I've noticed that, particularly on the German team (but also somewhat on the Russian team), players seem content to do nothing but sit at the top of the hill at R2 or the forward mid-Russian artillery piece and snipe away without even entertaining the thought of blowing up a base.

Funny thing is we (the Russian team) made these lazy Germans pay the other night by sneaking through and blowing up G2 and G3 simultaneously while they did very little to help their team. They didn't even try to run back and defuse. Nothing more satisfying than abusing a bunch of lazy Germs.

So, in conclusion, I REALLY like the server but let's not pretend it's about skill.

Well, people say the Draganov is not a skill weapon, but I disagree. You see, it shoots where you point it. Unlike the PPSH, where it shoots all over the place. Even the MP44 has a wide range. Noobanov, it goes where you point it, almost everyone has one, so whoever is faster on the draw and points directly at their target quicker, wins. You can say it is overpowered and unrealistic, but in the end very skilled people are going to be devastating with it, much more than slow reflex, shaky-trigger finger types. Guns like the PPSH and MP44 had a higher "fluke" ratio than the Dragunov. (or however you spell it). I think this argument is a matter of perspective, but that is mine. I mean, people used to call the PPSH a "noob" weapon because it threw out a huge spray of bullets (spray and pray). Now the Draganov is a noob weapon because it shoots straight as an arrow? WTF? How can 2 opposite weapons both be derided as nooby weapons? LOL

Anyway, I can agree with the rest. I'm like a human shooting gallery out there, almost always lead my team in deaths because I'm trying to charge through the carnage. Surprised no one came back in the game you mentioned though. That's the worst thing about planting now. People can get back from ANYWHERE. Hold you're rocket and you can sprint from across the map and defuse in time. I once ran all the way back from R2 to G2, killed the planter, and defused. Trying to defend a plant singlehandedly is near impossible now I find.

I have to agree with havoc...a lot of fun yes, if you can stay alive longer than 30 seconds after coming into an already started game. From the start there's always the chance of trying different strategies to keep it UO, but once it's rolling it really IS just deathmatch for most players.

You need more team work now to plant and defuse b/c of the firepower one person can wield.

Use smoke to neutralize the range and effectiveness of the Drag, etc.

The problem is that the team that works together is rare on this server. If I'm not on with 6FootUnder, IPFreely, Fresh-Jive-Five and ssgtfazz (or some combination of them), I'm screwed. In fact, I played at 5:30 PM Eastern yesterday (without other MFD) for about 20 minutes. I was THE ONLY player on the Russian team to set a base during that round. I set G2 twice and G3 once and was killed all three times before the bases blew. Want to know why? Because there was not a single green triangle on my compass within 10 miles of the base I was setting. They were all busy sniping at Germans at the sandbags, or hiding in the cornfield sniping, or sitting in the Russian village sniping, etc.

Again, I really LOVE this server and will continue to play it (and score damn well without using the Noobanov, if I must say), but skilled players are becoming much more rare. And I mean skilled as in players who get to bases and set them as well as assist in covering the plant. This, after all, is Modern Weapons BASE ASSAULT.

I must clear the air. Firstly, Steel this is a great mod and has really breathed life into MOB servers, Hope you didn't take my comments as criticism, just waxing nostalgic i guess.

Good players are good players, no matter the weapons. The same people kick ass on this version of the map as do and did on the "stock weapons" maps. The only frustrating thing is getting worked over by people you know you would be owning on "stock" weapons map. But hey, it's only a game and COD still occupies my thoughts every second of the day - HOW SAD IS THAT?!

That's all.

I understand what you are saying Havoc.

These people should learn that base blows, plants and defuses get you points quickly which leads to more nades and arty more quickly.

1) either these people will learn
2) maybe they like the maps on BAS vs the ones on the TDM server b/c of their size and less chance of a spawn rape which happens quite frequently on MWTDM.

I do know it is much harder to get any plants successfully. Part of the problem is plantable grenades. You can't just sprint into a base anymore, you got to look around, clear them out, while people are typically sniping at you. If you get in alive your artillery won't protect you nearly as well anymore as all the world champion sprinters seem to be able to race through it half the time. Covering pak fire is more useless because of the super sprint too, and the pakkers are being sniped off the pak so easily as well. Finally, satchels seems to have a smaller kill zone. So, so many tactics to defend a plant have been weakened by the new play style. Throw in the fact more guys can race back to defend using the super sprint, and you have a tough situation for 1-2 guys to successfully plant, and that's normally all you get to a base because many are, as you say, either mid-map sniping or being snipped.

Barb was always a hard map to win outright because of it's size and the clear cut "two-sides" to the map. Now it is harder. Will people learn better ways to play? Dunno. I'd personally like to see the time to set the plant shortened, or something to that effect. It's a real killer that so many people can get back so easily. I've defended a base against 4-5 attackers, only to see 3 more storm in. Many, many times I can't even complete a plant and get my gun back up and ready before I'm being overwhelmed, even though no one was really close when I started planting. It's tough.
