I agree, thats the argument i had with the wife. It goes: if there's no trucks to bring them gas (gas stations) & there not paying for new gas at a higher rate than how can the gas that they had already bought a week ago er W/E be skyrocketing? I call it price gauging. Oh and last time i saw it under a dollar it was 89'

hmm, I was just a kid in the 70's i was not aware that people payed $3-3.50 for gas then. Was that regular or un-leaded? I have noticed around here, diesel is still under $3. 2.60 something. Why isnt that going up?

If you factor in the cost of inflation they were paying more in the 70s.

There's no reason to worry about diesel going up. It can be made, and most modern diesel engines are made to run with either type. If it won't run with the new type, there are a few steps you can take to make sure it will, and it doesn't cost much either.

Ok that makes sence. I was guessing minimum wage was around $1.50 to $2, so i just couldnt see them paying $3 dollars a gallon back then. But then again i was just a kid & didnt really pay attention to the economy.

may i add that diesels can now be run off of old fryer grease, you need to filter it and do other things to it( not sure what though). the best thing is you can get it free by just going to a few restruants and asking them for it, they dont have to pay to get rid of it if you take it

i remember in the late 70's in high school of people waiting in real long lines for hours to get gas. then they would only let you have a few gallons at a time.

just think if you owned a gas station.
you get your tanks filled today for 2.65 a gallon, tomorrow the gas companies raise the gas to $2.85, you sell your 10000 gallons of gas for 2.65= $26500, you run out and the next shipment you get in is #2.85 a gallon= $28500. right there is why they have to put it up, they would loose money.
