jsut a quick post on weapons strength.
I have found that some of the hend held artillery (bazooka, etc) give inconsistant results. I can sneak like a ninja up behind a heavy and blast it dead center in the back. not dead. but many times, it happens to me. is there some trick to this, or is i just a random thing. I was hit twice today by "death" and it was a one shot one kill situation. do i have to hit a corner or what.... thanks. Homer: Todd smells?, I already knew that! |

Fired up a test server. Here's the stats on the hand-held weapons (assuming they haven't been mod'd further) for the Barbarossa/Smolensk servers. The rear panel of the tank is the weakest, so aim carefully. It's possible that the game averages the damage between quarters (so if you hit towards the sides, you may not get a sure kill).
But as long as I hit in the back panel, here's what it took to kill them. German Panzerschreck vs: BT7 - 1 shot KV1 - 2 shots Panzer III - 1 shot Panzer IV - 1 shots SdKfz (half-track) - 1 shot Stug III - 1 shot T34 - 1 shot Bazooka vs: BT7 - 1 shot KV1 - 2 shots Panzer III - 1 shot Panzer IV - 1 shots SdKfz (half-track) - 1 shot Stug III - 1 shot T34 - 1 shot -------------------- |

Try line yourself up center to the back too.... firing from an angle even though hitting the center low back is not a guarantee of ripping thru the 'soft spot'. In particular you'll find this with the rusky heavies and the jerry panzer 4. On the rare occasion I've been killed in KVs by 1 rocket shot by the rear, and seemingly the tank was at full strength too!

I feel quite sure I've been killed in the Russian heavy with one shot from behind several times. OTOH, I know I've aimed perfectly at the back of a heavy, shot, and not killed and wondered "WTF". Other times, I feel quite sure I shot a full health heavy in the back for a one shot kill. So, I get the impression it is either inconsistent, or the "sweet spot" is very very small.
In fact, I also had the impression that rockets striking from a longer distance hit harder than a short distance rocket. Is that my imagination? I remember once in a full health camoflage tanks and getting killed with a rocket with one shot even though I was pointing straight at the shooter meaning the shot came from directly in front where the armour is highest. (specifically, I was in tank behind German 2, and got shot from German spawn house...watched the shot all the way!) One occasion I've been killed in Grey German tank with one shot from the side, though I often shoot that tank from the side but one shot did not kill. Anyway, perhaps I'm wrong on the "distance" thing, but if so, there must be an explanation why sometimes bazooka shots from the side kill with one shot, even though they don't most times. Same for KV1 shots from behind. Anyone know these answers? MoD -------------------- ![]() |

I dont know about side armor for the grey panzer but I do know you can kill it with 2 shots to the front if you know where to aim. The mounted MG on top! When looking at it head on, just above the turret there's a grey bubble that a German would be in to use the MG. Thats a sweet spot. Two good hits and its done! -------------------- |

Something I've noticed is that holding your aim steady for a few seconds before shooting seems to make rocket shots MUCH more accurate. Is this my imagination? Anyone know the minumum time required to get this effect?

got no idea i know going prone realy helps The best shot to get on a tank with LATW [light anti tank weapons] in WW2 imo occured during the bocage campaign phase in Normandy when U.S tanks passing over hedgerow mounds presented their underbellies to AT fire. This section of the tank being the weakest armoured. This leads me to the sit. the other night on Smolensk map while I was in the Soviet trenchworks with a bazooka prone and awaiting a T34 hunting me down. So it rises over a trench work right on top of me just yds away-almost with no daylight except at top of screen so I let off a shot directly at the underbelly-NO impact/damage at all - my last thoughts as the tank mushes me.... I haven't kept up with Smolensk map fine tuning/modifications but apart from what I mentioned above does anyone else observe [ or know if] that the map's tanks seem easy to kill with the exception of the KV which seems 'up-armoured'> but..... I've been killed by 1 shot LATW while in it too! This post has been edited by Hellfighter: 02/26/06 1:29pm -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

Anyone know the minumum time required to get this effect? I was cruising in the Ruskie medium tank across hill #45 heading for the swamp, moving at a good clip. Someone fired an RPG at me from the other side of the church. I had a long time to watch its trajectory and it cut an astounding arc as it significantly adjusted to and tracked my movement. For a moment, I thought I was back in the F/A-18 Hornet with an AIM-9M hunting my tailpipes. Only problem, I couldn't find the selector to fire my chaff and flares. End result, one dead tanker. Clearly, the holding steady before firing helps, but I wonder at what point the RPG decides to advance to the heat-seeking stage. -Hamma |

you have to hold down the capital 12 key.
I wonder if people can get into thier game settings and mess with the abilities of the weapons. like editing the textfiles, or even using a trainer. I HATE to call out haks, but come on.... lots of one shot one kills right in the head from the hip and never ever seem to get clipped themselves. NOt a sermon, just a thought. |

That may apply to me in close quarter battles [not necessarily the one shot to the head part however]. I can't speak for others that have that 'trait', but it's an acquired thing you hone over time for those situations.
