I know we've got some hockey fans on this board; who is going to win it all this year?
I hope my Stars don't disappoint again this year. It is time for Turco to be a playoff netminder. -------------------- courtesy of harrycaray |

Go Wings! Sadly I don't think they'll get far unless Hasek stands on his head all four rounds.
My prediction, Ducks vs Devils in final. -------------------- ![]() |

New Jersey will take "the bucket". No really BIG stars(except goalie Brodeur) or primadonna's....Always underdogs - always in playoffs - excellent shorthanded - high team morale and defensive thinking....(reminds me of my hometown soccer team
And they'll beat Detroit in the final! .......and that's the vote from the norwegian jury..... -------------------- ![]() Members Of Barbarossa ![]() |

Hockey. hahahaha no one really gives a flying puck Well since my Habs were eliminated from the playoffs I've selected the Pittsburgh Penguins as "my team" for the Stanley Cup. Best young player in the league, decent goalie, and the experience of Roberts/Recchi. I think the Pens will have no problem with Ottawa and will likely make it to the Conference finals. -------------------- ![]() |

I'm picking a Ducks v Sabres final.
The West really is a crapshoot, with any of those teams capable of making it to the final (except possibly Calgary, but if Kipper gets hot then who knows) I just think that the duo of Pronger and Neidermeyer will be too solid on D, and combined with a talented young offense led by a vet who's on fire (Selanne) and solid tending they're gonna be tough to beat. Their special teams are nice too which is always big in the playoffs. In the East I just can't see anyone matching Buffalo: Scoring on all 4 lines, solid defence and goaltending, great coaching, plus they just got Connolly back too. @ Rushie: Sorry bud, but the way Luongo has been playing I can't see your Stars making it past the 1st round (unfortunate since the Nucks are my most hated Canadian team behind TO) @ Wings fans: You'll get by cow-town and possibly even the winner of the Nashville/SJ series but can't see you beating the Ducks unless Zetterberg gets back fast and the amazing disappearing Datsyuk finally shows up to play a game in the post-season. @ Kleerance: Brodeur is clutch. Unfortunately though you're going to need goals to win the East, and aside from Elias & Gomez I don't think you've got enough "O" to get by Buffalo. @ Saucer: Ever hopeful, but other than Jagr & Shannahan the Rangers are looking pretty thin. Can possibly see them getting past Atlanta but no further than that. Is Hossa back yet? @ CC: As I mentioned, I'd love to see them advance to the final, but Fleury has been anything but solid, and if Malkin pulls his disappearing act in the high stakes game like he did in the juniors last year you're in trouble. Gotta love Jordan Staal though - he's a gamer. I guess I'll be cheering for the Sens though. 1. They're the only remaining Canadian team I like, and 2. It'd REALLY piss off Leafs fans -------------------- ![]() |

Shifty, I can't tell you how much I agree w/your assessment. Some of that stuff I told some guys at work the other, almost word for word. Maybe we're watching or reading the same stuff.
I'd love to see the Wings go all the way but I think they're relying too much on Datsyuk who's pretty horrible in the playoffs. But the only upside to that was they had so many other great vets that took more ice time in previous years, so maybe this is his year? I'd love to see Zetterberg get back into his previous form, mostly cause I grabbed him for my fantasy playoff team. I think the Ducks will go far for exactly the same reasons you posted. Two great goalies, great all-star defense, smart coaching, and a talented offense... even after Selanne they have quite a few guys that can put the bisquit in the net. The Sabres... hmmm.... been looking great all season and I'm completely impressed how they overcame all the injuries and stayed par w/backup players. I'm just not sure they can get past NJ. The Devils have remained consistent throughout the years with great D, all star goalie, and they now have a decent offensive slap... I won't say punch... more of a shove or slap. I will say Buffalo if NJ can't score goals and I'd actually prefer to see the Sabres go to the finals and win. The deserve it and got screwed in the finals vs Dallas years ago... they're due. Nashville will sink. They do have vets, but most of their players are young and don't have the experience needed to haul all the way through multiple series. Only way they can make it is with a few quick series and lot's of rest and ofcourse good coaching and goaltending. Not much else to mention. NY, CAL, and PITT have a good possibility of sucking hard. My wildcard picks that could possibly go all the way without anyone noticing... TB and VAN. -------------------- ![]() |

I also think the Ducks and the Sabres play for Lord Stanley's cup...I'm a Flyers fan, so I'm slightly disinterested in this year's playoffs, but I think the Sabres are a top notch squad. Always have to fear the Devils in the playoffs (see: many dismissals of the Flyers) but I think Buffalo is the superior team in the Wales...errr...Eastern Conference.
