question is not from me, its from my kid. Both of them started sunday school after church and somehow my youngest started saying God made everything. Its not a question of whether you believe that or not, i told my kid he didn't make everything. So he started arguing with me that he did. So, like the genious that i am, i said, fine, then who made you(he started singing AC/DC then,lol), he said, God, i said, no, me and mom did. Then the big question came out, HOW? i just started at him for about 30 seconds and said, you'll find out when you older, go to bed,lol. this just happend about 10 min ago, i thought it was just too funny.

Depends on who is delivering the teaching.... like in some religions, some 'teachers' do come across as fanatical-fear mongering; you can see it in a few christian 'student camps' on occasion. You can be religious or not to notice how some things are preached from the pulpit - not to mention how some of the most inspiring 'preachers' /evangelists turn out to be phoneys - so in essence while they reigned, they were in fact brainwashing.

I think I know what your trying to say here Hellfighter, however, "brainwashing" does not really fit all the cases.

Christinaity teaches that all of us are sinners. Even Billy Graham or Mother Theresa. But because Mother Theresa was a sinner, does not mean she was brainwashing those she cared for. See my point? Because we are not perfect like God, does not mean we can't be very good people that may sin on occasion.

I'll try another analogy. Marian Jones, the American Olympic sprinter, who just admitted to using illegal drugs to win here medals is a lying, cheating, phoney. Nobody would accuse here of brainwashing the audience.

So Rev. Jim Jones of the Jonestown suicide/massacre would be considered brainwasher.
However, televangelist Jim Baker would be a phoney.
