I think the main issue is regarding how far can the media exploit Ayers over and over and over and nothing of it sticks with any significance to Obama.

On the otherhand, the McCain campaign are revelling in a cavalcade/circus [internal campaign/Party problems] and a huge assortment of controversies and screw-ups ... this is what the media can feast on.... to say they are siding seems a bit too simple as to the reality.

Why doesn't the media exploit Socialist Governor Palin's spreading the wealth [her words too] of Oil company profit's in Alaska to the tune of $3269 per Alaskan..... why isn't that an issue that's made into headlines to counter the McCain's current griping that Obama is a socialist.

A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of the New Yorker,
"we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources.

Furthermore they haven't smeared her with her and her husband's relationship to the Alaskan Independance Party - seccessionists in waiting? much like Quebec seperatists waiting for the right time.....

Sorry I've been away for so long. I'm not quite sure what happened. I've been very busy, etc.

Anyway, I've been busy on a different forum debating politics when this morning I said to myself, "Oh, Jeebuz! I'm missing all the hot political debate action over at mobclan!"

Luckily I see Hell and Hamm are doing a fine job keeping it real. I'm running into the classic right wing tactic of ask a question/make an accusation - answer question/counter allegation - ignore answer and counter allegation/demand to know truth cycle on the other forum. It's fun.

Why won't McCain release his full service record or his medical records? What's he hiding?!!!?! \

I demand the truth!!!

That's funny, because I've been saying "Jeebuz, where the hell is Chris!" Nice to have you back.

Seems we've all been busy lately. I haven't had as much time as I'd like, but I still manage to poke my nose in the door here to see what's happening. Unlike some other places where it seems like the discussions rapidly get out of hand, I've enjoyed the tone of the conversation that has taken place on this forum.

Joe the Plumber said in Ohio today, “The only thing I’ve been saying is just get out and get informed. I mean, really know what you’re talking about when you’re talking about it. Don’t take everyone’s opinions. I came to my own opinions by research." So, I guess we've now got Joe the Non-Plumber Researcher.

All kidding aside, the pursuit of truth is never a waste. I actually salute efforts to uncover as much information about any of Obama's relationships with whomever you wish to investigate. I'm sick and tired of having folks in government who feel it is proper to out and out lie to the people who put them in office. That said, I'd caution those who seem to be building their concern about Obama into a fever pitch. It gets awfully easy to see the bogeyman behind every bush, but when the light comes on and there is nothing much of substance there, you'll end up feeling pretty foolish.

One such bogeyman who is being hoisted by the Republicans this week is Rashid Khalidi. How easy is it to throw the name Obama, Khalidi and the PLO into one sentence and incite your crowd into a rage? Pretty damn easy. Unfortunately, when you are willing to pull back the curtain, it suddenly becomes all too obvious that your candidate has just accused Obama of an offense not nearly as eggregious as your very own candidate's offense.

As it turns out, for those willing to do their own research, Khalidi is an American born Yale graduate who also was a professor at the University of Chicago. The Washington Post ran an editorial titled "An Idiot Wind," which was a direct quote from Khalidi referencing these last minute attempts by the McCain campaign to slime. Needless to say, they weren't impressed with McCain's latest gambit.

A diary posting on OpEd News cuts right to the point that makes this just one more hollow controversy: "While he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI) during the 1990s, McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth nearly half a million dollars. A 1998 tax filing for the IRI shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank (see grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS," on page 14 of this PDF.) The relationship between McCain and Khalidi extends back as far as 1993, when McCain joined the IRI as chairman in January."

Reached for comment by the Washington Post, Khalidi refused to respond, writing in an email, "I will stick to my policy of letting this idiot wind blow over."

The Post ended their editorial with an amazing statement of support, "That's good advice for anyone still listening to the McCain campaign's increasingly reckless ad hominem attacks."

What amazes me is that after all this time, so many people still seem willing to allow leaders out and out lie to them. I just don't get it. We need to concentrate less on the bogeymen and more on simply demanding honesty and transparency from our elected leaders.
