Dove hunting has its moments of slaughter and frenzie and then you might have to really hunt all day to get your limit (12). I've hunted all day and only gotten 6 (actually once I only got 1, but I'm trying to keep it a secret). It depends on the weather, availability of feed, water, and the northern migrations; you know, dove are migratory.

What makes it fun is the way they fly. They are fast and ellusive. But like all hunting, it's hard to justify killing animals. That's why you have to eat them, and the cooking becomes a campfire specialty. You need a good cook on the hunt.

Your comment about deer hunting reminds me of some of my friends in Vernon, Texas. Vernon is near the Waggoner Ranch, the largest contiguous ranch in Texas. It's over 450,000 acres. Everthing from trophy bucks to wild hogs, turkey, bobcats, and even mountain lion live in this huge natural habitat. You don't have to drive very far outside of Vernon until you are really in the wild part of Texas.

My friends there film their deer hunts. They braid their hair, paint their faces, and then stalk deer with bows and arrows. They don't hunt from trees or blinds; they stalk. They actually study the techniques used by the plains Indians: best hunters I've ever seen.
