well ive decided to buy a new graphics card before i rip this blinky cod4 playing machine out of the wall and throw it in my banana tree grove w00t2.gif biggrin.gif . on a serious note ,im running a nvidia 512 7600 gs and simply isnt cutting it,very blinky and laggy. i dont know if my budget is with the 8800 gtx although im very tempted. is there a cheaper card thatll play this game awesome ? could i get another card and run it with my current card?

i need suggestions at a budget of about 200 to 300 is more reasonable.im actually begging .

True, there isn't another card that can compete with a 8800gt for the money.

Undead its funny you brought this subject up.

I am in the same boat and was going to ask the same question last night.

With some help from Capt. krueger pointing me in the direction to up grade my pc so i can run cod4.

Bestbuy has the 8800gt priced at $279.00.but you have to wait 1 to 2 weeks for deliveryThe model up from that 8800gts was $299.00.that can be shipped in 1 to 2 days.the model up from that the 8800gts qc i think its called is at $329.00.

I went to microcenter also and amozon neither gave me a better price.

I have a radeon x800xt now and if i recall i have had to replace it 2 times.

So i think im going to go with a nivdea this time around.

if you find any other better prices please let me know.

O yea Thanks alot Krueger.

Some confusion in this thread. Take a look at this:

8800GT vs 8800GTX

(and that is for the standard 600 Mhz version of the 8800GT)

Now tell me why anyone one would buy the 8800 GTS or 8800 GTX instead of the new 8800GT card.

I have two 8800 GT superclocked cards (650 Mhz) in shipment for testing next week and will report the results. They were $299 each with free shipping.

Mike ,

The very fact that you have already bought TWO 8800 GT already for testing is enough evidence to me that you stand buy these cards with great hope.I'm probley already sold on th 8800 GT.

I have a few questions for you.

1. I think its called sdram speed 320 mb or 512 mb...go with the higher # ?

2.then the clock speed they vary the GT that im looking at has two 400 mhz clock speed some are like one single 550 mhz and the one you spoke of the 8800 GT has one 650 mhz. What is the differance and how important are they.I mean would i really notice the diffence between a twin 400 as opposed to a single 650.?

3.Most importantly i have read a few posted comments at best buy about these cards running HOT.

Now my Dell xps stock computer box seems to have very few ventilation slats and it seems a hell of a small fan in it.Would i have to install a secondary fan as well.aside from breaking out my trusty old rotozip and going to town on this computer case? unsure.gif

TM,

Are you sure you are looking at the 8800GT? I don't think they have a core clock of less than 600 Mhz. I wonder if you might be looking at the 8500GT instead.

Oh, you are talking about a sub memory clock. Most 8800GT companies list the combined memory clock speeds and they are typically 1500 Mhz to 2000 Mhz. I had not seen the BFG way of specifying it and can not speak to it. In fact, I don't even see a core clock frequency listed for the BFG. I much prefer EVGA products.

OM Mike
