QUOTE(Druid @ 06/01/05 2:44pm)
A few people have gotten mad and made the accusation that we go through every private message, BTW this nicely bypasses the whole point about them doing something they shouldn't of been doing in the 1st place.
The reason they make this accusation is because they are illiterate to how a database is setup.
Private messages are indexed across multiple tables.
You can't simple read a message, title , who sent it , who received it, message text is all indexed in separate tables. Not to mention the fact messages are not even in chronological order. It's simply this, a search is done with a few keywords ( join, recruit, cheat ).
Oh yea, cheat is in their too. 3 People have been banned do to them talking about cheating on our server. Wow aren't we a bunch of Nazis. LMAO
*

Don't wanna get embroiled in something that ain't mine, but because the above policy affects everyone who registers in {MOB} forums (like me), anyone should have a say on this.

I think it's acceptable for {MOB} to read private messages in order to catch cheaters, spammers, recruiters, etc, so long as {MOB} informs those who sign up that they retain the right to do so. Put something in the terms of agreement like the following:

//=================
1) I agree not to do the following [...]
2) I understand that in the effort to catch cheaters, {MOB} retains the right to read ANY of my private messages provided certain criteria are met [...]
3) I understand that should I be found to be in violation of Rule 1 through any private message, I may be punished accordingly [...]

etc.
//=================

It puts all the cards on the table, it informs the signee of exactly what he's getting into, and it justifies any preventive measure {MOB} takes thereafter. Who knows, it might even scare a few n00bs from breaking the rules. Just imagine going to Disneyland and renting a private locker for the day, then finding out some attendant went ahead and rifled through your stuff because your appearance/behavior/clothing/etc. raised certain red flags. Unless the attendant notified you of this search policy from the get-go, then it's a violation. The intentions are laudable (and I don't think anyone thinks otherwise), but the procedure, as it is now, seems a bit invasive.

Or suppose, in ignorance of {MOB} policy, I wrote a PM to Silver like this:

//=================
Hey how bout that <Dodgers> Clan, those fvckin' cheaters had it coming to them after what they did--spamming the forums and recruiting talent on {MOB} servers after they hacked <Giants> #25. f4gs. BTW, I know you said Real was a cool guy and all, but personally I think he's a dick who needs to loosen up. Maybe he'll get better. And, btw, my mom is coming out of the closet. And, btw, I know it's not your biggest concern but, really, you should see your doctor about those herpes--open sores bespeak badness. ttyl.
//=================

While the message is clearly legal, it would still be flagged and read without my knowledge (according to Druid's criteria), and there is now a potential for sensitive information, information I would like to keep private, to be divulged. Of course, this is just a mock letter--there is no <Dodgers> clan (thank god), Real hasn't done anything to me, my mom ain't gay, and Silver has bigger concerns than herpes. sorry bud.

The point is that I would have shaped my letter differently if I had known of the search policy, and then everybody would be happy. Now, if somewhere in the agreement there is a stipulation that {MOB} has the right to do this, feel free to shove it in my face. As it is now, I'm not peeved or anything, because I figure you're not snooping around these things for leisure (that would be sad) or for any criminal intent (even sadder). That's all.

QUOTE(Bitch w/ Dildo @ Judgement Night 6:66pm)
Low and behold on mob 4 Holden Caulfield becomes my friend. When I joined DMG I never said shit about the “DMG” site while on the server cause I didn’t want to “step on” real deals sensitive toes (even though people would ask). I didn’t want to publicly mention our site because I heard how Mob’s leader was. So, WHAT DO I DO? I figure I’ll just mention where my new site is to my friend in a “PRIVATE MESSAGE” (if you want the definition of private I can look it up for you) as to not piss off anyone or “spam”. LOW AND BEHOLD – YES what happens to private messages on the MOB SITE? They aren’t private, not at all. The next thing you know Read Deal is messaging ASHE saying he wants to “ban me” for advertising in a “PRIVATE MESSAGE” not addressed to him. Jokingly saying “is she slow” cause I didn’t understand the so called subjective rules of “spam”. WTF it’s a god damn fuckin game.. HELLO. Turns out that MOB wanted to recruit my friend. He would have joined if not for the injustice and hypocrisy and lack of integrity displayed MOBS leadership. He declined because of what Real Deal did.

Hey guys I hate to be the one who breaks this up, but we still have alot of fun playing this game dont ruin it by replying to crap that was typed or really not meant. Sometimes we say things that we dont mean and it gets blown out of proportion. Just lay off and schedule a scrim and take it out on your keyboard and mouse. We at TLD have had our rifts with MOB and other clans. When you think about it we all need each other in the end cause we just love the competition and funny ass shit talking. I would imagine if this was discussed on ventrillo with all of who were involved it would not get to this. To be honest I am glad DMG and Mob are still around. We still practice to beat the best of the best . I think this has got way to much attention. It has been entertaining to say the least but getting old. Deep down you guys would do anything for each other and thats what counts. Save the other BS for the game. Just my thoughts.

Zillah + peaceful post = even more EZPUSSY. Anyways, I really just wanted you morons to leave our forums. I didn't want this to spill over like this because you all look overly concerned about this issue(s). I did however enjoy silver and ashe bashing each other... rolleyes.gif

holden_caulfield somehow got dragged into this by no fault of his own and I apologize. He brings up a rather good point so I will address it.
The registration form that I doubt anyone bothers to read includes this line
"We have the ability to view and/or remove all objectionable messages public or private and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary. "
I think that covers your question.

In this day and age very little of what most people would think of as private actually is. There have been dozens of cases involving private emails sent or stored on company computers. These are not private regardless of if the company announces it or not.
Until two years ago I helped admin a large discussion forum ( 5000+ members ) focusing on current events and Social Topics ( Religion, War on Drugs, Gun Laws, Privacy and Anonymity, Government Abuse). It was a phpBB forum and we installed a mod to encrypt private messages, there is no such mod for IPB as it's not an open source forum like phpBB.
We didn't do anything to gain access it's simply their as it is on ever single forum. Any forum you go to works the exact same way unless they have installed a mod which will you would be made aware of when using the PM system.

## Added Later ##
After rereading my post I thought I should add this to solve any false impression.
The forum I helped admin where we added a mod to encrypt private messages wasn't really so the admin couldn't view them it was because the forum was on donated webspace. The mod was to prevent the owners of the website to access PM's and certain private forums.
Half of the clan forums you visit are on small reseller sites. The owner of the webspace not only who run the site would have access to anything in the forum or PM's.
I'm only bringing this up because PM's are not the place for sensitive information.

If one is going to berate another on grammatics, punctuation and spelling:

QUOTE
Obviously this is not true or you would not of taken the time to take your fat little fingers out of the bag of Cool Ranch Doritos long enough to type a 3rd grade style essay with more punctuation errors and misspellings then if your kids would of typed it.

It should be "...you would not HAVE taken..." and "your kids would HAVE typed..."

QUOTE
I did not refuse to send you the pk3 files, moron. I told you we were in the process of changing the files on the server and I would send you them when they were done. Have your child read the post to you. There are multi syllabic words and you will not be able to comprehend them without your offsprings help.

Please use apostrophes in their proper place - "...your OFFSPRING'S help..."

QUOTE
I am not sure what this means, but I am sure it is not nice. What is F?U?, Silver, I do believe that your fingers have gotten so fat that you can no longer hit one key at a time. Maybe you should try Jenny Craig one more time. Isnt that where you met your wife?

Again, please use the apostrophe properly in the word "isn't."

QUOTE
Who has been here the longest? Is he two guys? Once again, makes no sense. I would agree that Druid is a very nice guy. He has helped me out tons of times (not tons as in what your legs weigh, but I mean alot of times). Realdeal can be a very nice guy as well, he just takes his clan and himself way to seriously. You on the other hand should just be tagged for research. You are about one beer away from being tied to a wheelchair and locked in a room with no windows and nothing to cut yourself on.

Please use the correct form of "too" if you are using it as you have in your paragraph. "Alot" is not one word, but two separate words: "a lot." Also, you really shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition.

QUOTE
In closing, Slobber, keep your fat mouth filled with chimichangas and your hot dog sized fingers off the keyboard, you are only showing your ignorance and lack of anything resembling intelligence.

Your second comma should be a semicolon or you need to restructure your sentence.

In future if you are going to mock another's English usage, make certain yours is actually correct lest you appear as a hypocritical dolt.

Dear NecroKitty,

Thanks for the grammar lesson; however, don't get too upset with the language skills presented here. Basically, what you see is de-evolutionary. For those few who write in Standard English, I say: poeta nascitur, non fit!

Write on, however, in Standard English (if you can).

Bargod,

Are you referring to the band Devo? If so, yes. I thought they were cool. Remember the video where they used the bullwhip? Those guys were different, but good!

To take this further off topic... I'm talking about more than the band. I'm talking about the Devo movement. The idea that man is devolving into animal.
