I visited this website and found it to be enlightening.

When you visit this site, you can enter your address and a map will pop up with your home address as the small icon of a house and red (homes of people who offended against children), blue (homes of people who committed sexual battery), yellow (homes of people who committed rape), and green (homes of people who committed other offenses) dots surrounding your neighborhood.

When you click on these dots a picture of a person will appear with an address and the description of the crime he or she has committed.

You may be shocked at how many of these people are in your neighborhood.

The best thing is that you can show your children (or grandchildren) pictures and see how close these people live to your home or school.

This site was developed by John Walsh from Americas Most Wanted.

One more tool to help us keep our kids safe.

since we have a litte one, at home, i regualry look at the poice briefs and sex ofender regisrty. I saw a former friend on there and a dude i have seen in the neighborhood i live in... I just give him the best mafia stare i have....

I've got like 10 within a 5 block radius (according to my local police watch list). However, it is unfortunate that an elderly black man who lives a few houses down is on it. He, unfortunately for him, got busted because when he was 15 (in the early '50) he dated a white girl. Of course, that was a sex offense. He's probably lucky to be alive, but he still did jail time and still shows up on the sex offender list.

It will be showing PA and other states soon, they just passed the new child protection law forcing all states to be involved in tracking sexual predators last week. Why didn't you hear about it... liberal media. Most liberals and Democrats feel that once a person has served his/her time in jail, they have been rehabilitated and they won't commit another crime. There is no need for criminals to be tracked after they are released, LOL... freaking idiots.

It's about freaking time... the hold up you ask? Ted "my head is too fat" Kennedy decided to pin a hate crime bill onto the child protection bill any lobbied it for over two years. I feel bad for all the parents and families of children that were murdered or abused in the last two years when the whole thing might have been prevented if Kennedy had just sucked it up and dropped the attached bill. What an A-hole. Don't even get me started on his slam on Republicans for not finding alternate energy sources but then doesn't want windmill power stations a few miles off the coast of his beach house. I hate him.

Where the controversy comes in is whether the information should be widely distributed to the public. You believe it should? That's fine. But at least have the intellectual honesty not to blatantly misrepresent the arguments of those on the other side of the issue.

I'm not misrespresenting anyone. Why don't you come visit DC sometime and see just how the government works. Try watching some CSPAN sometime. If someone came up with a bill to make every American debt free and promote world peace, there would be people against it for some reason or another. It was never a police issue, it was a state issue. Before this bill was passed, the tracking system was optional by state. There are a lot of states that chose not to be involved, hence why they wanted to pass this bill, to unify.

I believe in honesty and rational debate. It has become FAR too common in political argument, especially U.S. political argument, for proponents of one side of an issue to massively distort the view of the other side, and then ridicule them for it. It is, as I said before, intellectually dishonest, and that really annoys me, whichever end of the political spectrum it comes from.

correct me if im wrong but i was reading that some states are making the released child offenders go door to door in there nieghborhood and tell them where they live and why they were in jail as part of their release.i also read the ones who have multiple arrests have to even put a sign on there vehicle. i thought it was texas but could be another?

I saw that on tv, a bumper sticker stating they're a sex offender. If the sticker is removed, they go back to prision, for parole violation. As for the door to door, haven't heard about that.

Here are a few links that popped up first in my search, I'll be able to look into it more tomorrow while I'm at work. Again, I'm bi-partisan, but I don't that Bill O'Reilly lies about this stuff. He single handidly helped John Walsh to get this bill passed this past month by asking his viewers and listeners to contact Kennedy. I not trying to spew propaganda or anything, just what I've read, heard, or seen. Take it or leave it.

Being from the DC area, our news stations cover a lot of politics (I'm sure Flatliner could back that up) but at this point, I feel that you're just starting a fight that I dont' want to get involved in. Obviously you want me to debate this with you and post links that you can tear apart... I'm not going to play into all that. I'm going to stick with what I've heard or read and then my own beliefs and opinions. For the record, I wasn't trying to pick on Clinton or anyone... well, maybe Kennedy, but my beliefs are that many politicians are bad people. Take it for what it's worth. If you feel differently, that's fine. I'd appreciate a more distant approach in the future and I'd be glad to debate a similar topic down the road when the posts aren't so attacking.

Closest one to me is .18 miles, elementary school, middle school, and high school all within 3 blocks of each other is lame...but great in terms of walking.
