the hurricane didn't sneak up on them but it being as strong as it was did because everyone news station said it would be cat 3 by the time it reached but all the sudden it took status of cat 5 and by that time it was hard to find a way out. obviously these people wanted to live so if there was something more they could have done they would have and since you are sitting behind the computer dont try and tell starving people without homes they could have found a way out...that's just dumb

LOL, i second that. I find it amazing that the two people that think its an easy decision to evacuate from a hurricane live in Michigan (undertow) and New York(Silver). Like either of you have ever been through a hurricane. All of the people you are arguing with, Diablik, me, reject, khemist all live in florida. Therefore im pretty sure we know better than you do what happens and how fast hurricane winds can change speeds. To reitarate what reject said, it was a projected cat 3 hurricane in NO. I have been through cat 3 hurricanes, not having major damage to our home. There is no way they could have forseen that hurricane jumping speeds like that, especially when the forecasters project that it would be a cat 3. So u 2 STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was actually forecasted to be a cat 4-5, it just strengthened faster.

I just watch a clip on CNN about how a study was done a few years ago in New Orleans about how long it would take to evacuate and they said it would take anywhere from 48-72 hours with the help of the NG.

Instead of everyone talking smack here get the fuck down there and help. There is around 500,000 people in new orlean and yes they have plenty of time to get out BUT some don't have money or car. most of the peep that stay is poor and live in the project. I live about 8 hours away and we have taken in over 5,000 people in tupelo but it's seem everyone is going to Texas.

Hi Guys,
I live in Texas, in between Dallas and Ft. Worth, deep in Dallas Cowboy territory.
I spent yesterday and last night helping set up one local shelter here.
We recieved 4 bus loads of the good folk from NO this morning at about 1 am.
They were all people who had been stranded at the SuperDome for 4 or 5 days
without much to eat at all. They at last could bath and change into some clean clothes and got a safe place to sleep. We fed 200 of these most greatful people and then listened to their war stories all night long. They would say how they had felt more love in Texas shown to them last night than they had been shown in their own state. It was all very wonderful to see them and touch them and give them some help. I finally came on back home around 6 am this morning, very much in awe of the the sudden change a storm can bring to the life of an individual.
