without a doubt, mine would be
Ballad of Serenity, the theme to Firefly
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UqW6yvH1ua0I get goose bumps everytime I hear it.
I don't think I've ever been so sad to see a show get canceled.
Any other great Theme songs?

Yup Rawhide was a fave for me too......
I loved the movie 'Serenity' btw.
Hill street Blues- I sadly miss those old golden years of real tv drama.
My contemporary favorite is the theme song for the star trek spin-off show of a few years ago- 'Enterprise'.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0YOlU3SMgs Diana Rigg was a hottie ,but then so was Honuor Blackman
I like that Enterprise theme.
Diane Rigg is hot.
Someone name this show lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9VgJAdMTZc
That would be the Theme to Grizzly Adams.
But I don't remember it being sung by a lounge lizard.
I think it was on right after this show
Man, I have a lot of favorites, but tell me what cartoon had a better theme song than
thisI know it's an Anime movie now, but when I was a little kid running home after school to watch it in half hour episodes on tv all I knew was that it was a cartoon and the good guys sometimes died.
Speaking of imported anime, there were several cartoons like that.
What's strange if you think about it, even though the shows were originally broadcast in Japan.
None of the characters looked specifically like what we would see as Asian.
The one I was hooked on was G-force.
Goes to show what an impact some shows had because of a catching hook in their theme song.
The whistling part to "The Andy Griffith Show"
The double snap in "The adams family"
The piano introduction to "Cheers"
People that never even watched these shows could probably easily identify each of them

Not really a theme song but was probably more identified with the show then the actual theme

Snowman,
Loved Taxi and All in the Family, nick at night used to run both of those shows as well as the Dick Van Dyke, show which always kills me....
I steelhead a lot up you way over on the vermillion, nice area
Glad everyone got a kick out of the topic.
Funny note about All in the Family.
I saw Jean Stapleton ( Archie's Wife ) on some kind of variety show. Someone mentioned how they loved the way she sang the theme. They asked something along the lines if she had to practice to sing that bad. She just looked at them for a second, then replied, "Nope, thats my real singing voice"
Then to prove it she sang the musical scale, it was like nails on a chalkboard.

Blitz I'm a huge sanford and son fan as well.....
I like some of the instrumentals... like MASH and A-Team
I love it when a plan comes together!
I have thought about this in the past and this seems like an appropriate place to bring it up...
I've always found it odd how some of the funniest comedy shows have had really mellow theme songs.
First off, the classic intro "Suicide is Painless", for MASH
Taxi
Cheers
Moonlighting
I'm sure there are more, but those always stick out in my mind.

This is an outstanding topic, Robert!
I've really enjoyed the memories.
My only problem was with a couple of the shows that HF and CoI posted, I couldn't detect an accent.
I'm amazed that no one came up with one of the most memorable theme songs, a sound that defined a decade:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miWfaUPGG88
I've always wondered if they used the instrumental version of "Suicide is painless" on the show because the lyrics were considered unsuitable for network TV. It was a great show, I'm proud to admit I cried like a baby at the end of the last show.
I can still picture Hawkeye and B.J. trying to say goodbye but not being able to do it.
Then Hawkeye getting in the helicopter, lifting off to see the message B.J. left by spelling out Goodbye in white rocks on the hill of the heli-pad
Just thinking about it almost makes me need a tissue.
Dammit Druid, that gave me goose bumps and made me tear up...

A little triva I just ran across.
* Robert Altman who directed the original movie made $70,000, while his son who wrote the lyrics for the theme made almost $1,000,000 in royalties from the song
* This was the most watched episode in TV history.
* Commercial time during the finale cost more than during the super bowl that year.

John Cleese and Eric Idle are legends.
I love that stuff.
I was wondering when we'd get to Little House on the Prarie. What a wonderful show to grow up with.
Now, I can't believe I forgot Welcome Back Kotter, but I have to say that being a kid in NJ at that time I saw how city life was (at times).
I know it's different now, but at the time I would be amazed at how certain places looked compared to how I lived.

I saw that one once, but one or two of the previous cast were not in it if I remember correctly so it lost its old chemistry from my perspective....
Remember this one? hint "I'm gonna get you Butlahhh!".... the most pervy mini/skirt packed show [besides Benny Hill] a kid could get away with watching;-

I love how one reference to a show's theme song, reminds me of a bunch of others.
The Twilight Zone had a classic intro theme:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvMj5LuT5hkAnd my all-time favorite theme from the Wild Wild West. The opening credits shown in this clip doubled as the outline for every episode:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYCgq8q9Ofwoooh, oooh, oooh, one more!!! How did a bunch of WWII gamers miss this one?!?!
Hogan's Heroes:
